Meh, its been that way since the 90's but the rest of his analysis is on point but nothing new.

2005-2008 was the worst for me. At least these niggas rap for things other than ringtone sales and have more of an independent grind. Gonna be a beating a dead horse point, but he's looking too much into mainstream for the hip hop he wants. The era he was from was never that mainstream to begin with. Other than that, what he said has been true since 97.

Mainstream Rap souled out, see what I did right there?, how can you have 25% of a community living at or near the poverty line but there's little social commentary. Last was Kendrick's GKMC. Granted whether good or bad it has to be done well - no one wants to hear shitty production or rhymes but even when it is it barely occupies the same space as that other shit
