This thread is inspired by a couple of posts I've seen. Let's put it out there so that in the future, when people start talking their shit, we can look back here and say "Oh, he's just saying that because he thinks he's better than people down South."

As a TRUE Hip Hop purist, it's important to understand EVERYONE'S point of view. Everything that has an appeal, has an appeal for a reason. People that you think are dumb don't look at you and wonder why you listen to (insertsuperlyricalorbattlerapper), so why is it so hard for you to understand why they like who they like? Whether it be Webbie, Lil Boosie, Waka Flocka, Lil B, Wiz Khalifa, Travis Porter, etc., they make music that somebody somewhere likes for some reason. It may be content, it may be geographical, it may be anything. You don't have to like it, but at the very least, understand it.

So, tell the truth... do you think you're smarter than the average Southerner? Admit your bias.

not from the south, tho waka may be a transplant

& as for the thread

Im smarter than anyone who thinks Im dumber than them

I am from the south and niggas do absorb music differently than they do on the east coast. It's a car culture and open space down here, so these mfs like that club and car system music, they wanna shake their asses and nod their heads. As oppose to the east coast, it's confined space so music is listened to over headphones with less emphasis paced on bass and what not, that's why minimalist beats (Premo,Pete Rock, etc) are prefered and lyricism takes precedent.

can not say

there are stupid people no matter where you go

some of my favorite rappers are from the south, and I would assume you can throw them into the fan category too. I do not know them personally. Some people just like bad music, and in that demographic there are idiots of course.

Actually I think their smarter than a lot of the new york rappers and up nawf fans. The rappers down south grind hard and a lot of them arent looking for a hand out. A lot of them have independent labels and the fans support local artist. As a independent rapper I can appreciate their grind and hustle . A lot of new york rappers are lazy and their fans don't support them. How you a rapper from new york and don't have at least 250,000 person fan base

One more thing, it's wack rappers everwhere. The difference is on the east coast and nigga will call a nigga wack and out for it, down south niggas embrace wack ass shit (Gucci, Wacka, Soulja Boy,etc) all because the south is winning. There is no quality control down here at all, no way should these corny ass niggas like Lil B should be in the game and no one saying shit.

Then how do you explain Southern heavyweights like Wayne and Flocka getting major burn in the Midwest and the East? And don't blame Viacom completely because kids will listen to anything as long as they like it. All Viacom does is give them something to listen to.

There doesn't need to be quality control. Control yourself. Believe it or not, Hip Hop needs the wack niggas as much as the good niggas, because how else will we be able to seperate the real from the fake? It's also a test of character of whether an artist will dumb down or not.

Nope, simply because I don't judge rappers or others based on their music or playlists. IMO, it's quite ironic for someone to say (insert rapper or fan here) is dumb b/c of their music or b/c they listen to a certain rapper. It's ironic because statements like that usually speak volumes of the person making the statement than it does of someone's music or playlist.

These mfing djs are the scum of the music business right now, there is so much payola and political connections going on right now. Did you really believe the shit you hear on the radio or club is a result from the consumer demand, naw dude, it's entities who the record labels pay off to get spins on the radio and what not.

Indeed, and who exactly is holding a gun to the listeners' heads forcing them to keep the radio on while driving to the club and dance all night to the same shit?

Na, I don't look down on Southern rappers/fans. But I will say it's laughable when the South tries to say their rappers are just as good as NY rappers. I'm not even from NY and I will say that lyrically a lot of mediocre rappers shit on some of your so-called legends (Bun B, anyone?)

The line between street records and club records has been blurred since the 90's.
