Another thing that made EPMD great was their deejays.

DJ K La Boss was their original d.j. but they real went to the next level when DJ Scratch joined.

Peep this video... Scratch still one of the best:

at work post

Man I can remember when they broke up the month before or maybe a couple The Source had a cover with the entire Hit Squad looking over to New York. I even remember the last edition to the Hit Squad (The Knuckleheadz). Back than people would argue for hours who had the better Crew them of Boot Camp.

EPMD is the G.O.A.T. duo hip-hop group. Their catalogue is unmatched. The only duo that could come behind EPMD is Outkast. Both groups displayed originality. Someone here metioned Mobb Deep is the G.O.A.T. duo. I disagree, even though I got luv for Mobb Deeps music.

1. EPMD

2. Outkast

3. Mobb Deep

I dig MD too, but shit, EPMD had bangers for days. and Business as Usual I can play from beginning to end without fast forwarding a track. and DJ Scratch on the cuts, damn, just damn

EPMD was the only rap group to go gold from their first album all the way to their 5th (RunDMC lost steam after #4) initially at a time when going gold when your name was not RunDMC, this was huge. It meant that you were felt across the country, not just iun NYC.

In all honesty, I place them above Run DMC as far as hip hop groups go. Both are competent lyricists... but oddly they're better as a group than solo. Parrish's solo stuff was ass, and Erick's was decent, but as a team they're damned good.

You can drop most of their singles at any party or in a club and STILL get the place poppin. Drop "Tricky" or "Walk This Way" and you gonna get stared at, but drop the needle on "So Wat You Sayin", "You Gots To Chill", "Strictly Business" or "Headbanger" and there will be zero complaints.

I own or have owned every EPMD album, even "We Mean Business".

First 2 albums are undisputed classics. They were first who incorporated funk into hip-hop. long before Dre. Pioneers and one of the best duos in hip-hop. Although their latest releases weren't that great.
