I think Spartacus beat any modern superhero story to the "community protects their hero" trope.

Now that's obviously slated for season 2, assuming they get a renewal but honestly I'm thinking if they do that'll be it, and they'll try consolidate Supergirl into the CWverse further. It's not been a hit to justify it's budget and it's best ratings came from the crossover episode.
