Nah. It has some similarities tho. Like the whole trapped in another dimension thing.

But the show itself is a big homage to the 80's and 80's sci fi/horror in particular.

Like I felt the whole gov't angle was showing love to ET.

As for the references, a few off the top that I saw was:

Stand By Me - when they were on the railroad

A Nightmare On Elm Street - when the monster was coming through the wall

Alien - at the end when they were in the other dimension

Poltergeist - ironically that Joyce buys tickets for the movie and is communicating through the lights with Will

ET - I found a bunch of those

Twin Peaks - with Will at the end

Jaws - with Barb by the pool and the scent of of blood for the monster

I saved my favorite reference for last.

The Thing - saw the poster on the wall in the basement and Dr. Clark was watching it. The Thing is similar to the monster because its so mysterious and you don't know much about it. As the audience, you learn about it as you go just like the characters.

A few more things about references I mentioned.

Nancy is reminiscent of Nancy from A Nightmare On Elm Street. Starts off as innocent and naive to someone who becomes fearless.

Mike and Lucas dynamic remind me of the movie They Live with Rod Piper and Keith David especially the fight they have.

Steve surprised me though. I thought for sure he was gonna die. He was working that bat.

I hope Barb's death doesn't go unnoticed.

I'm interested to see the progress of the parasite and what it does to the host.
