I been thinking about this show a little bit, and I think another reason this was so popular was because they got the religious archetype RIGHT. They had someone who was innocent suffering for the greater. People like that kinda thing, and you see it all sorts of comic book characters. Like there's a reason Harry Potter books were so popular.

Im so glad i watched this show. I felt like a kid again watching all the shit those young guys were doing. Im halfway through episode 3 but i had to take a break,otherwise nothing wouldve got done today. So many call backs to other horror films done correctly.
