Alpha and the Omega.

Your trying to understand something thats far beyond human logic.
Then how do you understand it enough to assert that it's true?

I'd rather be naive and believe in God, only to die and there be nothing after death, then not believe only to find out there is something beyond this life.

My daughter wants to know is every religion believes in a "God", then why is it so hard for people to get along and not fight about religious beliefs?

I gave her an answer, but I would like to see what you guys think....

Nah, just hopeful. I'm far from religious, but I like to think someone's gonna hold me accountable or reward me for what I do in life, then believe that no matter what I do in life, it ends in death.

A classic derivative of the "What if?" argument.

What if the "God" you believe in is the wrong one?

Surely believing in just one is not enough to thoroughly cover all your bases:

People come up with different god(s) with different traits/rules/instructions. Sometimes these different people are "told" to do different things by these different god(s) and they conflict with each other.

Sounds like it's a good time to get her interested in reading history.

Atheist fundamentalists post on forums.

Christian fundamentalists shoot abortion doctors to death.

Muslim fundamentalists blow up buses full of people.

Jewish fundamentalists use bulldozers to destroy Palestinian homes.

But atheists are the aggressive ones? Word?

Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the LORD your God must be put to death. Such evil must be purged from Israel. (Deuteronomy 17:12 NLT)

A man or a woman who acts as a medium or fortuneteller shall be put to death by stoning; they have no one but themselves to blame for their death. (Leviticus 20:27 NAB)

Whoever strikes his father or mother shall be put to death. (Exodus 21:15 NAB)

If a man commits adultery with another man's wife, both the man and the woman must be put to death. (Leviticus 20:10 NLT)

Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods. In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully. If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock. Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it. Put the entire town to the torch as a burnt offering to the LORD your God. That town must remain a ruin forever; it may never be rebuilt. Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction. Then the LORD will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you. He will have compassion on you and make you a great nation, just as he solemnly promised your ancestors. "The LORD your God will be merciful only if you obey him and keep all the commands I am giving you today, doing what is pleasing to him." (Deuteronomy 13:13-19 NLT)

If your own full brother, or your son or daughter, or your beloved wife, or you intimate friend, entices you secretly to serve other gods, whom you and your fathers have not known, gods of any other nations, near at hand or far away, from one end of the earth to the other: do not yield to him or listen to him, nor look with pity upon him, to spare or shield him, but kill him. Your hand shall be the first raised to slay him; the rest of the people shall join in with you. You shall stone him to death, because he sought to lead you astray from the Lord, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery. And all Israel, hearing of this, shall fear and never do such evil as this in your midst. (Deuteronomy 13:7-12 NAB)

What's Satan's official kill count in the Bible? Ten.

What's God's? 2,270,365.

I don't blame God for anything, since he does not really exist.

I blame RELIGION for building a system of authority where priests can get away with RAPING CHILDREN FOR CENTURIES because most of the good church-going people won't accuse them or question them. And the government gets tied into religion as well, giving it actual firepower whenever it needs backup.

Anyway, now that I've proven that you don't even read your own Bible, I think you're finished.

I do understand it. I lived it. And you know what? I grew out of it. I got smarter and threw away the mental shackles. I freed my mind. And you can too.

everything u cited in there is from the old testament. we now go by the new testament, as the old testament explains the basis of the religion and gives stories as to how we are supposed to live faithful to God, ie the book of Job who doubted God once satan began cursing him. so i guess i stand corrected, the bible does change, as u said, this is an advantage. once christ came and sacrificed himself for our sins we can come to God through him and things are done differently. it was God's new promise to mankind. again, we are supposed to be peaceful, turn the cheek, i doubted once before in my life and thought i grew out of it and it drew me back. ppl try to find contradictions but there are none.

i understand its hard to believe, but why is it everything the bible tells us not to do is becoming more and more of the norm the longer we exist? why is it everyday we wake up we do more n more shit the bible tells us not to do? just as the bible said would happen

look at tv, celebrities, we're not even lookin at real ppl no more. breast, butt, cheek implants, new noses new faces new bodies all fake......nothin on tv is real. the more we move farther from reality the more God gets pushed away. coincidence? i think not. do u tho.

Matt 5:18 "For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled."

Jesus says you are still obligated to follow those old laws.

I don't even see why you would try the "tahts tha old testament" excuse.

It's the OT, but it is the words of your god, right? Or did an all-knowing being change his moral standards at some point?

i see ur argument but the old testament was intended for the jews as they were the promised people. when christ came everyone was now able to gain the opportunity to enter to heaven. the new testament fulfills the old testament.

You have heard that it was said, "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth". But I say to you, do not resist an evildoer. If anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. Matthew 5:38–39.....and that is also a response to ur comment about so called "christians" shooting ppl up at abortion clinics. those r fanatics. thats like sayin everyone who is a muslim thinks its an honor to be a suicide bomber in the name of allah
