As a kid I knew Paul through De La's music (reading credits ftw)

When I bought my first Gravediggaz album (because of RZA), I realised Frukwan was dope as fuck

Then I found out he was part of a group I knew probably even before De La Soul

hip Hop ftw lol

The bass line to Sally used to thump, never knew what @5Grand would say east coast ain't have knock

Yeah, Stet's "In Full Gear" was one of those albums that dropped in '88 that helped to make it the great year it was.

I remember when I first saw the video for "Talkin All That Jazz" and recognizing that bassline being from Lonnie Liston Smith's Expansions, but not being able to pinpoint it. My stepfather is a HUGE Jazz aficionado and that's pretty much all we listened to growing up. I let him listen to it and he reached up and pulled out Lonnie's "Cosmic Funk and Spiritual Sounds" on vinyl, put it on his turntable and dropped the pitch to -8 and there it was. I had heard that record quite a bit growing up but my favorite track on it was always "Shadows" so I half assed listened to it until it came on.

(edit). Also, I wanted one of those white Troop hookups they had on in the video for "Talkin All That Jazz". Shits still looks dope as fuck today.

Still one of my favorite songs of all time. That entire album was flawless to me.

Yeah this song has the sub-bass that most East Coast rap didn't have at the time.

But back then, I had a stereo system with small speakers. I probably never noticed the bass. Now, in 2017 I'm listening to it on a 200 watt 2.1 speaker system. The bass is body numbing. Also the high hat speeds up to 32nds.

Stet's first two albums are both classics. Their third album was kinda weak. I remember hearing it at the time and it didn't have the magic of the first two.

But those first two albums definitely belong in The Vault.

Cosign.

That In Full Gear album is a classic and belongs in The Vault. But 88 was such a crazy year that it might not even be a top 5 album that year.
