I remember when I first saw the video for "Talkin All That Jazz" and recognizing that bassline being from Lonnie Liston Smith's Expansions, but not being able to pinpoint it. My stepfather is a HUGE Jazz aficionado and that's pretty much all we listened to growing up. I let him listen to it and he reached up and pulled out Lonnie's "Cosmic Funk and Spiritual Sounds" on vinyl, put it on his turntable and dropped the pitch to -8 and there it was. I had heard that record quite a bit growing up but my favorite track on it was always "Shadows" so I half assed listened to it until it came on.
(edit). Also, I wanted one of those white Troop hookups they had on in the video for "Talkin All That Jazz". Shits still looks dope as fuck today.
