The hood does have potential

and if everyone takes flight

who are gonna be the stand up people that the next generation looks up to

or the previous generation passes the torch

@Mr. Bocario a hood is usually characterized by low income or government housing.

Other characteristics consist of inflated crime (serious or petty), a high concentration people who didn't graduate from high school and usually there is an inflated presence of narcotics in the area.

@konceptjones in all due respect it really doesn't make sense to rent when you already "own"

Some people shelving out hundreds and even thousands of dollars "renting" something they'll never own.

That makes no sense to me if you own a house in the area.

Why should you pay and accue more of a financial deficit when already own property and/or a home over here.

It might not be safe as the next neighborhood nor is your home the best but at the end of the day it's yours so why sell or leave what you have to go pay for something that isn't yours?

I do agree that a lot Black folks put their money into things that don't and never will grow in value such as expensive cars, rims, tennis shoes, clothes and things of that nature.

A lot of cats do that and don't even have a place to lay their head at night.

While a lot of Black folks fit that mold there are a lot of other hard working Black folks that don't fit that mold.

I'll use my parents my for example I grew up in the country but it was in a part of town where the undesirables lived and hung out at.

About 10 years ago my mother got a better job and started stacking her bread.

She did this until she had a considerable savings account.

Her and my father just moved from that house on the undesirable side of town and into their new house they had built on several acres of property they own outside of town.

Mom and dad still own the old house and the property it's on and plan to rent it out.

Mom and dad like many other Blacks saved their money then moved.

Sometimes living in a undesirable area is a small price to pay when considering other options such as drowning in mortgage debt plus paying any other bills you may have such as utilities, fuel, insurance, car notes, groceries, etc.

But, if I've been reading this thread right, that's not what's in dispute here. The mindset that it appears many have is that they stay in the hood no matter what. I understand your parents moves and fully agree with it. They had something free and clear and used that as a stepping stone to get up out the hood. Families that live in housing projects or other low-income settings don't own their homes, so this method wouldn't apply to them. However, in those cases, people need to handle the ESSENTIALS and stack chips so they can get out of the projects at some point. There's no reason what three generations of a family should ever start and end in the PJ's... The shit is retarded! I know people like having nice things, but why are folks in the PJ's rockin expensive clothes, with their unit laid out better than many people in upper middle class neighborhoods? That money could have been put to better use to get the hell out of the hood. Nobody gives a fuck about your clothes and shit when they're outlining you in chalk.

@konceptjones I think it's a hood mentality.

A lot of folks are born and raised in that environment and know no other way.

Those people lack the intrinsic motivation to do better and think they are getting ahead because that's all they know and see.

You right I know 2 or 3 generations of families still living in the projects yet thinking their balling the ish is pathetic.

Until those families have someone to teach them better or a family member that comes along and breaks the cycle they will continue to know no better.

If half of the kids in a neighborhood were poor and from homes with values and behavioral patterns characteristic of people in the hood, and the other half were from solidly middle class homes with values and behavioral patterns characteristic of the middle class, how do you think most of the kids would come out?

exactly. When you strugglin to make that payment of the 5 series or whatnot and Bill from Accounting has that, an X5 his wife rides, and a Z4 he keeps in the garage and is *comfortable* paying for all of this it kinds makes you look stupid for owning a luxury car on a pitiful salary like that.

Truthfully, a lot of high dollar cats I've worked with in the past have driven some of the shittiest cars. Dudes I know were banking $200K+ driving a 20 year old Camary to work or a raggedy ass pickup (but on the low prolly got some shit for you at the crib).

I agree with your definition . That's why imo no one actually wants to live in the hood, but do to certain choices in life that's where they have to live

""" the hood"" has different meanings to different people some hoods are not violent at all they just

black neighborhhods in the city. plus some neighborhoods are just close to bad neighborhoods

the hood that girl got killed in is about 8 blocks from Obamas house and the university of chicago

which is a good neighborhhod but its close to some bad neighborhoods, so the assumptions being made in

this thread is stupid. oh and rich people move into bad neighborhoods all the time its gentrifications

im not sure about the bad credit excuse....cuz i see alot of very expensive cars in front of house that look like shit on the outside.

i swear i know like four people whos car cost more than they house back in my old hood. niggas look at me funny cuz i got an old car but a nice house. niggas told me "when niggas see you they dont know you have a nice house when you driving a 5 yr old lincoln, but they see my benz they know my money is long"

true story.

priorities people

priorities

I love the hood

L.A. is one big ass vast hood that extends to bordering suburban cities like Compton & North Long Beach

Hood is more of a mentality that derives from a particular demographic. You can take a nigga out the hood but you cant take the hood immediately out of a nigga.

Hood don't always mean dilapidated buildings and urban decay and extreme poverty. Most hoods are blue collar working class areas.

So get that image of 1970's/80's South Bronx out of your head when you think of hood because most hoods aren't in small densely populated areas where people have to live stacked on top of eachother with a concrete court yard to play & congregate in.

Been in the hood all of my life/raised my kids here and they didn't fall into the stereotypical extremes of "hood rats" and "thugs"... In these days in time many in the hood don't fit the old definition as we did in my era.

Most modern day 90's babies hood figures are watered down and dont know what its like to exist in urban decay poverty. They came up in a time where there was much improvement and beautification projects. Less crime and "internet"

@LouisianaCrude You always have an option. People in the hood need to start prioritizing and stop buying $300 sneakers every 3 months when they know they need that money to stretch for bills and other real shit. save up and there's the money to move right there. the Mother of invention is neccessity. Harriet Tubman didn't make no excuses, she wanted freedom by any means.

Like I tell my cousins and them fuck the hood!!! My cool ass be chilling in low ignorance zones!!! Shit I spent 20 years in that enviroment and I don't miss it all!!!

You could do everything in your power to raise ya kid upstanding but if they are the kind that are followers then the streets will suck them in.. Nothing you can do about it accept pray. Leaving the hood will give them a chance to get around some positive people. Also they wont feel the need to be that tuff guy to fit in or keep from getting picked on.
