Kimi....just go see a dermatologist, and have him put you on some Retin-A...it will take care of the extra oil your skin is producing, and clear up the hyperpigmentation you are experiencing. Keep you hands off your face, and don't bust the pimple. When you see one coming up, apply some peroxide to it, to draw out the bacteria, and keep scarring to a minimum.

Well this pic is a few years old, so it's a looot better. I actually started taking acutaine, so the acne has pretty much cleared up. But now I'm dealing with the scarring left over, so I'm trying to find the best way to speed up the healing process. I made a thread in the powder room on skin care because I love to get advice from other ladies on what products they use. Feel free to stop by Ma'mm:) So is Retin-A good for hyperpigmentation?

Wow...Acutane is no joke...you mean business, don't you? LOL!!! As far as clearing up the hyperpigmentation, I suggest you try Obagi Nu-Derm Clear. It has 4% Hydroquinone, and that targets the hyperpigmentation. It reduces the amount of melatonin your skin is producing right now, causing the dark spots. Retin-A is good, because it stops oil production, and also exfoliates the skin. That causes the skin to generate new skin cells, which leads to smoother, softer, more even toned skin. :-)

Hey Dee!!! Only for a little while, then its back to the grind, when school starts back up. The Dermatologist probably put you on tetracycline to clear up the acne internally. Often times, pimples are nothing more than our body fighting off an infection, and the ruptures are the outcome. I never knew a side effect was a black hairy tongue though LOL!!! I use to work in a dermatologist office, so I was able to pick up on a lot of skin care tips and tricks. Plus, I don't like to wear make up. I believe a woman is most beautiful when her natural skin is showing, and glowing and smooth. In order for me to do that, I have to keep up on skin care tips, tricks and products.

Yes Girl, I was not playin. You see how horrific it was in that pic, and I decided to go on the strongest thing I could get!! So the accutaine has basically cleared it up. Although I still have to stay on top of the oiliness. So I'm dealing with scars, these pics were taken within the past weeks....so looking at then do you think retin would help clear up the remaining scars?

Wow....the Acutane is really working, because your skin looks sooo much better in this pic!! I'm with you, I hate the side effects of Acutane...and quite honestly, I'm surprised that your doctor put you on something so aggressive...I would have thought to maybe do a series of chemical peels, to cut off the oil productions, coupled with the Obagi Skin Care line. That would have had the same effect as the Acutane, in my opinion.

As far as the scarring, I would talk to your Derm about putting you on 0.1% Retin-A, and 4% hydroquinone. With the Retin-A, that will decrease oil production, and exfoliate the skin. Remember, exfoliation is key when trying to remove the scarring. With the hydroquinone, it will eliminate the dark spots on your skin. Look into the Obagi Skin Care line too...a little pricey, however it is sooo worth it. Since you are on Acutane, it wouldn't do any good to get a chemical peel, but once you are done with that, look into getting a glycolic peel, preferably a Jessner peel. you'll peel like a snake, but the skin that is under there will be soooo smooth and pretty.
