i always found it useful to hunt down the originator via FBI I.P. audit and slit the throats of them and their immediate family members regardless of sex and/or age. stopping once you get to the 2nd-removed cousins usually does the trick.

Alrighty, it seems like spambots (computer controlled members that register to spam advertisments, links to websites or jibberish) have hit this site. I've seen the same thing happen shortly afternTISH (another vBulliten forum) was created. Ideas:

- Enabling CAPTCHA for new members when registering is one thing that worked for a few weeks..but after I while I think they somehow found a way around it.

- Banning the IPs of the spammers. A lot of these bots have the same IP addresses..and even if you google some of them, results show the IPs as known spammers. I've alreayd posted some in the thread Greg made.

Other than that, I don't know. Anyone have any other ideas?

the captcha would work for a minute, they should do that...ip ban the spammers. they already have the captcha for each post, how are the bots getting past that ??

I had captcha set up and it wasn't working. Later on tonight, i will try to reenact it. If there are any problems, I have to turn it off. The only real way is to be diligent, it's a netwide thing. It only slows these guys down for a few. They will keep finding ways in. But the more we IP ban, the less they will be present. Remember, alot of these dudes probably have older accounts from when we couldn't really control this thing. But now we are on it and it will get less and less.

grouchy once, in his entire life, teamed with the most gulliest E-Crew around, nWo. children wept because their mothers threw themselves at our feet for our acceptance. our demeanor was in the upper echelons of the swagasphere, when Grouchy joined it was game over.

then he didn't post again for 6 months.

*in my RZA voice* this shit is fuckin ridiculous!

I wish us mods could ban these faggots. Doesn't seem like Admin is on nearly enough to take them out.

Dont the admins have the ability to do that already tho ? If not I think this is a good idea.

yeah but the whole approval thing is a work in progress on here, look at how new posters had trouble posting once they logged on.

If we unapprove spam bot posts & then delete them as spam will that prevent them from using those IPs to post their spam ?

it doesn't make a difference that report system is just there. smh.

we cant even hard delete, those soft deleted posts makes the threads and forum look sloppy.

It does. This place needs a downgrade to vbulletin. Im on board extremeskins.com thats been alive just as long as this place and has as many posters if not more and its being handled fine. Wasup Admin?

Until we can correct the issue, instead of deleting the threads/post, please use the report feature so that we can Ban them as spam. Once you have deleted the post or threads it becomes time consumming to remove the spambot and all of the threads/post created by searching each individually in the mod panel.

Thank you.

No. It just reports them and, if choosing the option to, deletes all of their posts..unless the user has over 50 posts. Only admins can use the action in that case.

I don't see the problem with mods having banning powers. At least us Reason mods. I don't feel as if any would ban unnecessarily.

Spambots who are banned can be reported in Ban Log thread or something. Active users who are in question of being banned can be consulted with fellow mods/admins within these forums before any action is taken place....unless its something serious that required immediate suspension like them spamming porn everywhere. Seems fair and organized to me.

i've been to another site that uses this layout and it seems to run more smoothly there.
