There is pure hip-hop in every region of this country. With that being said, the radio and other media outlets constant promotion of horrible, southern rap has given it a bad image

The problem is that northern rappers are all still on that 90's blueprint of music making. Its either the conscious rappers up north or the gun touting gangster from the north, and either style isn't appealing to the mainstream audience as a whole anymore. meanwhile the south is making music that appeals to the consumer the most right now and any northern rapper that jumps on it is considered a biter. If the north want to get back on top they need to create a new sound and usher in a new group of rappers as well. But anyway right now the south is definitely more successful than the east/north.

Success as in what? Radio play? Sales? 2009 i dont recall any major Southern Artist dropping and making a big fuss. Rick Ross kept relevant by beefing with 50 Cent (A Northern/Eastcoast rapper) and who else dropped in 2009 from the South Gucci Mane? and thats an Accomplishment? if so then it's not looking good for the South. And Young Money dropped also but their Star Rappers arent from the South beside Lil Wayne who got his whole "swag" from Up North rappers. The only 2 rappers who went Platnuim was Jay-Z and Eminem from Hip Hop and we all know where they are from. And it's sad when the south gets it it's as weak as it's ever been. So i dont think the south have been Very Successful, not in 2009.

I have a question... What do you think will happen when the whole "Wayne's image" gets boring, or played out? Just curious as to what you think.

I agree. mainstream south success is a facade that Jewsih Executives are funding to keep folks dumb. the mainstream south is gettin major radio play and ringtone sales because they promote capitalism better than marketing agencies.

even david banner said this was true. he was like, "if we really dominating, where is our P Diddy's, Jay Z's & 50'S?" HE FEELS LIKE THE SOUTH IS GETTING PIMPED AND DOESN'T EVEN KNOW IT.

U MAD? sounds like a hater...oh yeah the south does have alot of whack ass rappers but the SOUTH is whats been keeping rap/hip-hop alive for the past few years. i grew up listening to Northern and still do but the SOUTH is in every station, club, or commercial. We've been runningg it and most NY rappers come down here to fuck with us to get some shine or to get radio play have a down south feature, please believe it, believe it please!

it's a part of the modern hip hop debate to talk about it. that's just how it is.

Well the south's legends are more consistent with hot music than the north's legends. The south is more unified than the north and that's part of the reason why they find so much success

And don't act like wack music doesnt come from up north. Dont make me pull up some videos. And how come the hottest artists (even with lyrical content and creativity) are coming from the southern and other regions? Slaughterhouse (not hatin, but these dudes needed to form a group to even slightly get noticed) and Charles Hamilton are really NY's top contenders and they arent the hottest out right now. J. Cole is from the south and he's got next

Oh no, I feel like they both have their faults, as well as strengths. Honestly, I feel like up North is well reliant on Jay and Nas, oppose to the South who has a wide variety of style, sound, and image. These are just opinions, because whack is created everywhere from the N to the S, and E to W. It's just that the South right now is rap's biggest competition... So they are the most talked down on.

The east is not making any new stars like the south are and already you have cats on the come up like J Cole and B.O.B and even he wack even Gucci Mane. Who in the east is making noise like that right now, Asher Roth? Charles Hamilton? Slaughterhouse?

Exactly. You got the most creative artists like B.o.B., Kid Cudi, J. Cole, Drake.. ALL outside of New York, basically creating the future. If these dudes can really get out there and deliver, I think hip hop will be back on the rise. Slaugherhouse is really sticking to what we already heard before. The people want something new. Asher Roth and Charles Hamilton dont seem to be going anywhere although I could be wrong.. But right now it doesnt seem so

The south blew up at the wrong time....they blew up after Clear Channel and Viacom got their hands onto hip hop. ANY region would've looked bad if it had blown up in the 00's. The East would've had a bunch of Dipset copy cats, the Midwest would've had a bunch of Nellys and Chingys, and the West would've had a bunch of Hyphy rapppers. It's all about timing, the South came in at the wrong time. It's unfortunate because the last decade pretty much shitted on the foundation laid by Face, Kast, Ball & G and UGK.....the south won't be remembered for those legends, it will be remembered for crunk/snap/ringtone/trap music.

They both garbage now, one has always been crap, the other hasn't been the same since 1997-2000.
