My research in the field of negrology led me to believe that the "waves" are simply a combination of nappy curls and straight hair. Hence if one has naps/straight hair and attempts to slightly straighten/nappify them they will obtain waves depending how much heat or moisture is

Is it self hate? Depends. Using lotion could be considered self hate if you hate looking ashy. I honestly see no difference in people bleaching their skin and people going out of their way to use perms or wave pomades. It's all cosmetic preferences. Noble negro > waves.
