I never thought Martin was all that funny. It had it's moments but mostly it recycled the same jokes over and over.

Both had a hand in its demise.
The show had to come to an end eventually but the way they did it was weak asf. Despite all the controversy, they still managed to wrap up the series in a definite and realistic way.
A few years deep into marriage and careers, a change was inevitable.
Only problem I have is the flawed execution. Martin was an archetype of young, black love in the 90's. Gina was ultimate ride or die chick and Martin was just a black man that loved his girl, friends and job the way any man should.
Albeit he was goofy, he was all about black excellence in its purest form.
