Why should he go platinum?

99% of HipHop artists don't even go Gold.

The last time a non crossover artist went platinum was Young Jeezy back in 2006 with "The Inspiration",

This is 2012, last year only 4 rappers went platinum and 4 went Gold.

The year before that only 2 rappers went platinum and 5 went Gold

Hopefully he can resist the temptation to cross over and go platinum by going POP.

To be honest he has been trying to go pop wit da singles his whole career since his first album he has got rnb acts on his singles going for a soft sound.

You're a liar.

Their is no crossover using RnB artists, the Billboard charts even categorize songs as HipHop/R&B, if you want to go POP then you need to get a POP artist or a white chick so you can crossover to the Pop charts.

B.O.B feat Hayley Williams

T.I. feat Christina Augeleria

50-Cent feat Justine Timberlake

Lupe Fiasco feat Skylar Grey

Emenim feat Pink

JayZ feat Chris Martin

Kanye West feat Mr Hudson

^^^^that's how you reel the buying demographic in and get them to notice your project....let Em feel like they are a part of the movement.

I want to see Ross become an elite artist but without mainstream hits to do so, earning a platinum plaque I feel would not only do that for him but also cement the streets as being the number one voice in hip-hop and not T.V./Radio

Platinum certification is nothing but a trophy for an artist.

As a solo artist Chingy has two platinum albums and Rakim has ZeRO.

The Insane Clown Possee have more Platinum plaques than Jadakiss.

If you know that around 85% of the people who buy HipHop albums are white and that Black people are only 12% of the population then you should know that Ross will never go platinum and hopefully he can ignore the people who want him to and not attempt to dilute his craft or white-wash his music to go platinum.

I already said this but Ross music doesn't target enough demographics

So what did Jeezy do that was so special to go platinum? Don't him and Ross basically have the same fanbase?

Jeezy hasn't been platinum since 2006 the same year that Ross made his debut.

This is 2012 and the only platinum rappers are Jay/Kanye Wayne/Drake Emenim/Nicki.

Vanilla Ice went 10X platinum.

Paul Wall has a platinum plaque but Z-Ro doesn't.

Maybe so, I just thought an artist that's as hot as Ross is now should be more than a gold artist. It may just be a trophy to some but plaque also represent the connection between an artist, their fans, and the music they present to them.

Streets don't buy albums as much as the burbs do.

If you are pitting Chrisette Michelle, Raphael Saadiq and Erykah Baduh on your album you ain't gonna draw the same attention as thst 50-cent album with Emenim, Justin Timberlake & a Pussycat doll on it.

I think a big part of Ross problem is he really isn't evolving, the nigga has a niche and he damn sure stick to it. All his albums and interchangeable as hell to me. Basically his music lends itself to a certain audience and that's why he only sell a certain amount.

But den jay z, weezy, 50 cent and even camron went platinum having the same lyrics/content and being the same type of rappers as Rick Ross.

Jeezy managed to still do good so if Jeezy's sales are a pre hype to Ross he should sale.he may cross that bridge this yr and i don't even really check for him

If you listen to "emo" rap you're soft, but if you listen to gangsta rap you're hard, and if you listen to conscience rap you're an erudite.

I value the "urban community's" opinion on hiphop over all others.......Im mean that is the birth place of this culture right?

I wish these rappers would realize that you don't have to sell out to sell units.

IDK if it's lighter or not cuz he got so many records out with so many ppl, but he sold better on his last album than the previous 2 so it could go either way.Jeezy went Gold pretty quick so he may go strong gold like last time.Ross just doesn't appeal to middle America as a whole. He's too urban

If Ross wanted to crossover by any means necessary, he could easily throw Alcia Keys or Rihanna on a hook. He'd get a hit single and possibly a platinum album much quicker than working w/ any of those artists. Jay Z's Alicia Keys assisted "Empire State of Mind" is his biggest single. T.I., Jay, Em, and Kanye all had some of the biggest singles of the careers w/ Rihanna on the hook. The songs those artists did w them are bigger than any of the songs on the list. Plus the albums that featured singles w/ Rihanna and A. Keys sold far more than the albums in that list.
