Well I can understand how cats clown on an artist that does 22k in the first week and are on a major label in which most artist receive an advance upfront for their album. Can you imagine investing $2-3 mil in artists as a major and he only does 40-50k during first week sales? On the other hand, with an independent the artist is basically responsible for marketing & management.

I have had the pleasure of listening to the entire album and I didnt hear any "gangsta nwa fuck the white man shit", maybe these poor souls picked up the wrong C.D. by a different artist.

On a deeper level you have to look at how simple-minded the clowns are; they call our films "Disney movies", we call them Black family movies.
...they call an independent release a "flop" after 22,000, we call it freedom when you can drop your music without any interference from labels and industry politics.

Its just a different mentality between us and them, we can separate a man from his music and a man from his movies and appreciate the art for what it is regardless
of its mainstream appeal.

i dont think the west is dead. and listen to the interview i put up. he may not still be on some fuck the white man shit, but he still wants to be a gangsta and a disney star. i understand people are complex and have different sides, but its damn near impossible to be marketable to both "the streets" and "disney families". in a perfect world cube could be making billions selling the movies to the kids and albums to the adults. im sure thats what his goal is, but its hard to do that and not be looked upon as a sell out.

i call the series of movies he did with disney "disney movies" because they were done with disney. for an artist on an indy label with limited production, and who came out the gate dissing new west coast artists (thus alienating possible newer and younger fans) 22k isnt bad. and i think its nice that he featured his kids on so many of the songs, they got songs with a legend under their belts now, and they get a little spending money when their royalty checks come through.

but my point wasnt to hate on ice cube. my point was that he wants to appeal to disney families, and his old "gangsa" audience, and hes obviously not succeeding on a large scale. but either way hes getting movie and music money, so fuck it.
