What laptop is it?

If the fan won't even move, it probably needs a new motherboard.

Might as well get a new one.

never go to geek squad.

... EVER...

Waaaaay too many incidents of them cheating customers by overcharging for work or charging for unnecessary work plus they have this annoying tendency to browse through the contents of your hard drive.

what kind of laptop is it and when did you buy it?

highly incorrect. The hs/fan may simply be shot. This happens a lot with laptops. Might just need a replacement fan.

The "i thnk i broke" part implies a fall or something. If it's not powering up completely and the fan is not moving, it probably needs a new motherboard.

she clearly stated the fan is not moving and she shut it down herself. That is not indicative of a fall or motherboard failure.

What wasn't mentioned was the extent to which it powers up, whether the screen back light comes on, whether the screen displays anything, whether it gets past POST, etc. If the laptop fully powers up, then it's clearly the fan.

You sure? That's a Dell, not a HP. A new fan for that would only cost ~$25, if the warranty doesn't cover it.

So how much do u thnk it would cost to have it replaced all together?

Just bought it in august. Would my warrenty cover the repair? I got it frm best buy.

Inspiron 1564 = Dell, not HP.

look underneath it and post up the service tag number. I'll tell you what your warranty length is (you could also look this up at Dell's site too).
