No jokes, but I've done some research, and apparently, the word is that you're supposed to do away with all kinds of pornographic material, even if you're just looking at it.
The main culprit is neither porn nor masturbation (both of which aren't "bad" per se) but porn fantasy. If you can't get off without thinking of "pornographic" material, then you're already knee deep. If that pornographic material is some fucked up shit, then you're neck deep.
You have to pull yourself out. You have to abstain and let your brain cool down and "normalize." That might typically mean nearly complete abstinence from pornographic material from about 6-8 weeks to 3-4 months or so.
I really don't know if it works or not, but I'm trying. Almost 3 weeks clean (and let me say, the image of Kelly Devine that you put in my head doesn't help one bit, and neither does a fifth of the posts in this thread).
I'm not an addict at all, but I'm led to believe that porn can decrease the quality of sex. It's like one gamer put it - 'it's like using cheat codes to beat a game to the point where it's too easy and no longer fun.'
For my brethren, a few helpful sources that I've recently read:
Your Brain On Porn (this site is loaded with good info)
Are You Watching Too Much Porn?
How Porn Is Re-Wiring Your Brain: How Short Term Pleasure Might Cause Long Term Damage[/quote]
