The only time I look at BET is for the BET Awards with that being said BET Awards has been a better award show for the last few years with their performances than MTV awards and the Grammy's .

She was making a different point than most of us who have been critical of BET though.

I, like most other posters I am sure, have never made that particular point.

People don't hate BET for the same reason Stacey hates it.

They hate it because it's lost its soul. That doesn't mean it should be done away with altogether and have nothing at all geared to our culture/people (which is what Stacey wants).

Jamel, how can ANYONE agree with Dash if you know the history of why BET and BHM was created?

Its still a shame to be a black entertainer/actor on network TV, you still have to fit some mold to get a pilot shot which might not even make it to production.

BET's problem was that they were trying too hard to emulate MTV once MTV's "real world" and "road rules" shows and spinoffs really started to take off. They started playing fewer and fewer videos and then created an MTV2 channel and other sub MTV channels to show other genres of music. When BET started doing College Hill, i knew there was only one way the station would go from there.

BET cancelled all of their shows with substance, mainly Nightly News, Tavis Smiley, Teen Summit etc...

They even consolidated all of their other music based shows into 106 and park to appeal to a younger demographic. Not sure how good a Planet Groove would do in this day and age, but it was a nice offering to balance the Rap City segment.

Nothing is wrong with original programming, "Being mary jane", "the game", whatever brand's new show is, but they have no other offerings with substance.

I think the issue stems from the use of the word integration.

Integration VS cultural amalgamation

Other non-black cultures have been able to integrate into American society without losing their heritage, culture, language, etc. It was/is not so with so called Blacks. We lost our heritage and are encouraged to not 'nationalize', i.e. have anything to identify with an origin outside of the USA, but instead be 'absorbed' (in the sense of a company merger, 1 buying out another). And if we do speak about nationhood, then we are radical separatists and reverse racists. Even though every other culture that thrives in America does it without the same pushback.

I can't pinpoint the time that I started skipping over BET. I guess right around the time other black oriented networks became available. TV1 is pretty good. Can't say I agree with Stacey Dash or her views but I don't watch BET so I guess the whys are irrelevant. BET just seems so dumbed down last time I tuned in.

Imo I think the whole fuck BET and "bet iz da worze chanel eva" was completely overblown. All they'be been showing are mostly reruns and movies with the occasional original programming, VH1 has been sliding for years while depicting black people in a negative light without offering an alternative to show blacks in a positive light. Whatever negative images of blacks that BET showed there was also positive images as well.

No more Rapcity, Nightly news, Tavis Smiley, comic view, bet uncut etc..

If it wasn't for the award shows and a few classic reruns I would say pull the plug.

Stacey Dash is a coon and was probably put on fox as a buffer. They always get some token black to speak in white folks stead so it appears less racist.

Make no mistake, her talking down on bet is not the same as me talking down on bet. I diss bet in order to point out how it can better serve black people. Stacey Dash, an agent of white supremacy, is talking shit to serve white people. She has no points for us to respect and if she did it's a slick lie.

Yeah it's crazy all the flack, and rightfully so, BET got for a long time in terms of the images of black folks they constantly put out there, but it seems like VH1 is just skating by with few people noticing nearly every successful show they at the moment involves groups of black women on tv constantly fighting ,screaming, cussing each other out etc.

I think we are way past the "impending" race war talk. Race soldiers have infiltrated law enforcement, today's media is the propaganda machine demonizing the enemy, and any one of us could be ambushed at any time. Being black and pulled over is the equivalent of being caught behind enemy lines as one former soldier once put it. Id say Flint is an example of biological warfare at this point.

Racist been at "war". Been active. People are gonna be caught slipping thinking it's suppose to look like something they see in the movies or over seas. It'll probably be way too late when it gets to that point.

I don't ever recall criticizing BET, even when it was a big thing to do like on the Boondocks. A lot of people didn't like the videos they showed, but it's not like they produced the content of the videos, that was done by the artists.

Many of the people who critiqued BET were the same ones that weren't watching BET news or Teen Summit, etc. So for those people to say they don't like the cooning or ignorance of BET now is a bit hypocritical. Assume that nothing on TV is for the public good and that will put it all in perspective.

you know one of their biggest reality shows is t.i and tiny... which shows a black family in a very positive light....

people blacks included need to stop assuming shyt if you haven't watched in years....

it was said in that "oscar quote thread" that some of the voters don't even watch the movies and people were talking about how hypocritical it is to judge something they haven't watched..... well you niggas doing the same thing...
