It's not the pick that did it, it's the incredibly large contract given to him.

They took away that hunger, the drive to succeed, by feeding him that much money so soon. Truthfully, who knows what could have been if he didn't get the money, however he did, and had nothing to work for.

I blame Al Davis for JaMarcus Russel

naw it wasnt the money Russell was jus lazy yo...

Russell wasn't a bad choice when it was made, shit he outplayed Brady Quinn in a bowl game before the draft.
Russell was just lazy and stop trying. Plus the team he was on was bad also, and the Raiders have Al Davis, which hurts more than helps.

you act like Brady Quinn went on to have a great future himself

look, they were both HIGHLY overrated QB's. Like many qb's picked this year, y'all love to disregard the blatant lack of actual qb skill and overrate how hard a guy throws

i dont think he was overrated tho....i think he jus never had a true drive to play football

man he was always overrated

you couldn't even run down the list of accomplishments that merited him being a #1

Brady Quinn is still in the league, so in theory it was a bad pick

and if he was 'raw' in college, then it would be dumb for any team to take that player first overall, unless that player is cam newton

he had 350 yards of total offense and threw three touchdowns on his way to winning both the game and the Sugar Bowl MVP.

a qb who improves every year like and is playing in the SEC against great defenses is not an easy task

i dont mean talent wise raw i ment he was hella good...way better than cam newton. and jus cuz brady quinn still in the league dont really mean to much..he still isnt a starter or even a back up. he's 3rd string either way neither one is producing any regular season stats

1. you said that the Raiders needed a qb

2. you said aside from Russell, Quinn was the best qb in the draft

3. you said Russell was a better pick

4. Russell is not in the league

5. Brady Quinn is in the league

6. your #1 draft pick is out of the league is not better than having your #1 pick still on your team, even if that player is brady quinn. At least something was salvaged

Point blank.......the niggardly was NEVER used to working hard.....we from the same city....and I can tell you he was treated like royalty.....and it happened at LSU also....he relied so much on his natural talent he didn't work....then he got to the pros and thought he was just gonna get by on that natural ability.

I definitely think when his uncle ray passed that affected him mentally cause he and his uncle were very close.

Russell was gonna be a bust no matter where he went. He was a lazy half retarded nigga that had no kind of motivation or drive whatsoever.

We woulda been much better off if we picked Calvin Johnson and then Trent Edwards in the 2nd. I think Trent woulda been a pretty decent QB with us.

T/S acts like it's a law passed by the Federal Gov't that forced Al Davis to even draft a QB.

You're supposed to know exactly what *type* of player you want in every position that you have a need in. And if you don't see that then you either get the best player available, trade UP or trade OUT.

Perfect example of why you don't *settle* for what *could* fall in your lap in the draft. If the draft don't have what you want/need, get the fuck out and use the draft picks as currency to get what you really want.
