It's personally Nas best album imo, the production finally matched his lyricism and it was when Nas was at his most energetic and entertaining.

I initially liked IWW better than Illmatic. Lol opinion changed after more listens but I still think it's a dope album......

Say what?! NaS sold out? LMFAO!!! IWW is one of his best albums, the only song I don't like is "NaS is coming"

Yo, remember when Nas had to lyrics printed on the CD insert. Ah, those were the days.

Only a lame would say he sold out. That album is one of his best hell one of his top 5 songs is on that album "the message". ih he sold out then i guess all of the Wu sold out cause they changed their names started talking about lavish things.

At the time Nas was taking a lot of criticism for this new mafioso persona he invented. It was mostly NY heads saying it though. The New Yorker was an almost impossible fan to please back then

I thought Nas did sell out with It Was Written at first..but over the period of time, I came to the conclusion it's one of his best works.

It Was... was a great album. However, does anybody else feel me when I say "It may not be his best, but it's certainly my favorite Nas joint. Lost Tapes."

I thought that that was his most cohesive album and mad people slept on the jawn.

"Go back in time, take the slaves plows, shovels, and they hoooeees

The masters get the “It Was Written” introooo..." - Lupe Fiasco

IWW is a dope album.

Most people claimed Nas to be a sellout for working with Lauryn & R. Kelly on that album. But by today's standards, that album is GOAT quality. However, back then critics ate it alive.

SMH @ Cam'ron swagger jackin' Nas' pink suit that he swagger jacked from Casino.

nah IWW was still a classic & Nas was a young pup just finally getting money & seeing new things.

imo tho he aint sell out till 99 wen he dropped I Am & then ran behind his label & screamed "You Can Hate Me Now" all while spillin champagne bottles, rocking full length furs & partying hard w/ puffy. I felt that "I Am" was a sell out move cuz he made that album to clarify who he was at that point & went totally materialistic. I still remember that one video I think its something like Nas Is Like or w/e where hes driving down in bentleys rocking armani suits & rolexs n shit. it was nice to see he had money but creatively dude did lose it. perhaps this is where jigga warriors can lay claim that dude drops hot albums every 10 years or w/e it is they say.

"I Am..." wasn't too pop to me. "Nastradamus" was the ultimate pop album. SMH. "I Am..." had a lot of substance and story tracks. It wasn't the biography that we thought it was supposed to be (like Lost Tapes turned out to be), but it was still dope IMO. I think doing that video with Diddy did a lot of damage to the image that his fans grew to love. That video seemed like half pop & half artistic. Nas was carrying the cross, which was very controversial, but he was also clubbing with Puff. "Nas Is Like" saved helped save his image though. Then he released "Nastradamus".... SMH.

Once again niggas randomly bring up jay-z. Lord. Anyway, banging album. Nas got some serious bullshit in his catalog but homie got heat as well. This is surely one of them.

No that album was great if this song would've made the finale cut it would've been held a Universal Classic

Cause it still would've had that grimy ness/ street hop with poetry that was on Illmatic and add in Silent Murder that's a great album. Even tho the era we were in was the mafioso/ big willie style rap, if he would've dropped Illmatic 2 like they were staring he would been looked at as just doing the same thing and can't keep up, If he drop It Was Written In 2010/2011 everybody would love it and call it a classic....
