what other roles can black people play constantly...

serious question becuase that all we are ever seen as

Read the book. I'm not against slave films, the problem is that there is rarely more than one depiction of black folk at a time. It's passed time to flood the market with original ideas.

Why doesn't he boycott the European history that is always shoved down our throats.

I watched and so far I think it was very well done.

Fiction or not he needs to have a seat. I mean why would I let someone who calls himself snoop lion or whatever the hell he calls himself determine what I watch.

i never got the 'slave movies are overplayed' argument, never will. How the fuck is TWO MOVIES "overplayed". Hollywood refused to do them for the longest, to the point where only foreign filmmakers would touch shit like Goodbye Uncle Tom, then Django and 12 years drop and suddenly niggas complain as if Hollywood is pumping out slave flicks every week like they romantic comedies. Then ya'll keep crying about wanting a Nat Turner film but when a young black gifted filmmaker does one ya'll start the same hatin shit like oh why they forcing slave films on us. Ya'll keep wanting a Haitian Revolution film but when Danny Glover finally gets that off the ground, you niggas gonna complain ohhhh boo hoo slave films. Meanwhile I never seen a Jew or Zionist complain about the two dozen holocaust films & documentaries that drop every year.

See, I'm a history buff that enjoys reading history and watching historical films. If that ain't your lane to each his own, but stop acting like we're better off as a people if everybody gets to explore their genocides in art but we don't.

Why can't we have a film about black people doing good? Because films need fucking conflict and drama, does Snoop really wanna watch "I graduated college and have a promising career and volunteet in my community: THE MOVIE"?

You're changing the goal posts.

Lot of people, myself included, realize that the vast majority of television and movies depicts blacks in servitude and subordinate roles to white characters. They're always a sidekick, underling, save, servant, or some random character just waiting to be beat down, humiliated, or killed.

If you're pretending as if Hollywood doesn't have a fetish for black oppression and death, you're in denial.

And it's a completely unfounded formula considering GOOD movies depicting blacks in positive roles can do well i.e. when Best Man Holiday beat out Thor: The Dark World in its second week. Outperforming a Marvel movie in today's climate is a big fuckin deal by the way. If they can make all white movies without resorting to ridiculous stereotypes and overplayed archetypes., they can do the same with Blacks, Asians, and Latino Hispanics as well.

I find these types of movies to be beneficial. They are historical pieces that when put in context can be a source of inspiration.

If, you're tired of slave movies then you should be tired of gangster, pimp, drugs and hoe movies as well.

Lol, alot of bullshit said in this thread already. There's so many stories in black history to be told, from black wall street to all the kings and queens in africa who they continue to white wash like Cleopatra. Atleast we're finally getting a Nat Turner flick soon. There's no reason to keep rehashing the same slave movies and all they do is add a "white savior" to the movie to make white people feel good. I read through all that bullshit.

And foh with that "well wasnt snoop in soul plane" shit, I bet yall parents was like "well wasnt he a pimp" everytime Malcolm went to give speeches. Shits corny af.

Red Tails was a horrible movie. Great cinematics but writing was poor and acting wasn't that great. Traditional Lucas Film.

But I'm ready to see the Nat Turner movie.

I'm not getting the outrage (again). We all are very aware that black people love sitting around talking about slavery. It comes up literally every five minutes in conversations. It's impossible to escape. But suddenly a movie is too much to bear?...

part of me wants to see Black Wall Street brought to the big screen, but then i know the other half of me will want to take off work for a couple of days after seeing what the white folks ended up doing

Thats why i watch Rosewood on the weekends so i have time to compose myself before returning to work.
