That's not shocking. I mean how else can you explain all these unknowns going viral then they get a deal off it? I don't know why they don't realize that a million YouTube views will not equal a million album sales. I can watch YouTube for free but I have to pay for albums. I don't think so

Doesnt even matter since alot if not most artists are signed to 360 deals so sales doesnt really matter that much.

every cent counts homey !! all a 360 deal does is allow labels to invest in artist like Future who probably wont see platinum .........

lol, I remember when I was young I wanted to be a rapper to be rich and famous. Half the rappers these days aren't rich or famous. Every time I think about getting back into it, i think "for what?" The industry has changed so much from even the early 2000's.

There have always been broke rappers, the net just allows them more widespread visibility. Back in the day you had to "make it" in your city/region first.

actually in this day and age you still have to make it in your city or region ...... damn near every artist thats hot right now was popping locally before going national .... Asap, Wale, Rick Ross, Meek Mill, Gucci and his whole crew, Jeezy, Nipsey, Papoose etc......... the only dudes i can say honestly got hot after the deal is J Cole ...

ASAP Rocky was not buzzin in Harlem before Sony picked him up. People looked him up AFTER they heard about his 2 million deal.

Music business (emphasis on business) is a numbers game. In order to get numbers you gotta have clientele, and people willing to work with you to boost that clientele. My videos are barely passing the 100s because it's just me and a few people promoting our stuff, and I'm sure a bunch of other cats on here can tell the same story, even though we all got the potential to be stars. In order to get them million type of numbers, you either gotta have a consistent fanbase willing to fuck with you, or have some Gangnam Style novelty type song.

thats still no excuse for the So Cold in the D video getting over 5 million views

Cuz that shit is the GOAT.

This definitely confirms the coonery thats being celebrated in today's music. Think about it. Everything is manufactured by the labels and in that they're pushing faggotry and cutting out real talent by creating a fake buzz for a these implants.

@antarticp

I disagree

with what ??

I disagree with almost everything you've said in this thread, but this in articular... Especially your pretentious "... lol ..." as if you know what your talking about...

@antarticp

"aint no label buying 500k copies ... lol ... but they do buy copies for promotional use ... technically 85% of the albums produced are sold ... the other 15% are for promotion use ... ie for djz, buttering up contacts, employee copies etc........"

Yo that Hot 97 Radio Roundtable was dope. Everyone should watch all 3 parts. Erbo can be cocky but he really broke it down. People have to understand Radio really is a business, these dudes do not have control at all. The scientifically track spins and how many people react to a song. Doesn't make it right but it's clear they are only going to play based on their market research. The only part he was fronting on is payola cause it's not like it use to be with money in a brown paper bag.

Labels are the ones rigging the game with the songs being forced on the radio. But it was some good videos. I feel bad for up and coming artist, if mainstream artist aren't selling and labels are losing money, how is someone really going to break in, the stakes are even higher now than before. I suggest people keep it independent, it's not necessary to go to a major in this climate.

I knew this was happening. Labels are pathetic and getting deperate. 2012 will make the 1st year since the 1980's that a Rapper will not have sold 1 million copies in a calendar year.

Well that is what happens when Jay-z, kanye west,Lil Wayne, Drake and Eminem do not come out with solo albums in 2012 they are the last platinum selling rappers left.

whoever the fuck signed kreyshawn had to be fired

She got a Million Dollar Deal, trust me they been fired when those numbers came back. She is the biggest joke in the history of Hip Hop. At least Vanilla Ice had a Classic song.

LOL @ Billboard using Youtube views after this was exposed. Youtube views can not be trust. The Music Industry is officially WWE status. I can't take the charts seriously anymore.
