Niggas forget that Jermaine Dupri is on Vol. 2

Bingo and we have a winner. Although I don't co-sign the "whole it took Southerners to make Jay Z a household name", it's a fact that Jermaine Dupri's "Money Ain't A Thang" took Jay Z to another level. That song began Jay's radio dominance that continued with "Can I Get A...", "Money Cash", and "Hard Knock Life". This song was very instrumental in making Jay a household name:

Well I think Hard Knock Life was Jays first real hit song

Can I Get A (which was ja's song originally) was a hit in the clubs in NY

however Jay's real cross over success came with R Kelly Album,..that nigga Kellz helped Jay break around the world, after that the Black Album was Jays real worldwide commercial success and his retirement album

Jay owes a lot to Kellz...

NIgga Kellz been making hits for so many dudes over the years

wait wait wait..........I can't cosign this statement. How aren't they household names with platinum and gold albums?

They definitly wasnt household names before Big Pimpin!

Jay introduced them to TV audience because them niggas was southern underground before that song.

I was put on to them nigga before because I moved down south but to act like they the reason Jay blew up is rediculous.

For real Jay Z wasnt gettin no spins outside NY before Big Pimpin... He had to ride UGK's cocktails to become famous.

ironically, his biggest selling album to date was the one before that.

Aint' that funny.

dont waste ur time arguing w/ny niggas. they r all severly infected w/the crabs in the bucket syndrome. the second u do better than them they instantly hate and try 2 tear u down. the sooner niggas realize that hating ass niggas cant be anything more than hating ass niggas the better they will be. stop trying to appease, reason with, or give a fuck about what a bunch of pop culture, commericialized, washed up, has been, 1980's, hating ass niggas think. let them keep ridin gay-z, puff's, and all them other white folks approved ass niggas nutz. the west coast crushed those haters a few years ago so its our turn to do the same. fuck the haters

Let me point out a couple of things really quick...just break it down easy.

1. Jay-Z was a household name before "Big Pimpin", do you remember how big "Hard Knock Life" "Can I Get A.." & "Money Ain't A Thing" were? Those were some HUGE songs that were on the album before "Big Pimpin". Jay-Z was a known among hiphop/rap fans even before that, but I'm pretty sure "Hard Knock Life" & "Money Ain't A Thing" pushed it into household name status.

2. Who cares? Would you rather artists not collaborate?

3. Again whats your point, I'm a big UGK fan but let me ask you this...when did they become household names? The chorus even says Pimp C and Bun B in it, I didn't see them become household names. Pimp C & Bun B still aren't households and they probably, sadly enough never will be. To be honest, a lot of people didn't even know who they were until Bun B started doing a million collabos while Pimp C was in jail, and then when Pimp C died.

4. If anything, this song helped UGK more than Jay-Z. Jay-Z was already had sold 5million of his previous album, this exposed UGK outside of the South more than exposing Jay-Z to the South.
