Should US Black Actors/Actresses Link Up With Nollywood?

Lemme just wrap this up since apparently its not clear:

If you are going to Africa for whatever reason, thread premise included , make sure you check yourself at the door : are you doing it for yourself or for heitage and pride and culture blah blah blah

In terms of this thread , what is the primary reason? Judah you said and i quote:

"Do you think black actors/actresses should take their talents to Nollywood films? Could it increase their appeal?"

maxresdefault.jpg

Now, the easy cop out is the 'their' is Nollywood. But given the context, sounds like it would be the actors, bc that's who would benefit more. Bc Nollywood is thriving already . Black actors? Struggling. Otherwise you wouldn't have made this thread

"Seems as if AA are only really recognized in movies where they are casted to reinforce stereotypes or re-live the past in America."

As far as the tangent of moving there, homie said about his peeps moving to,Africa : "They are doing well", "their kids are assimilated "

The subject of both those statements are the family and the family's kids

Again, you're not doing this for Africa. Its for yourself. You can have your thread back tho

@S2J

When I said, "their" I was talking about Nollywood as a whole. Because to be honest, I've never seen a Nollywood movie. But there have been some posters in here who said the enjoy them. I even mentioned the idea of them EXPANDING beyond their countries boarders....

Come on man....

Be all the way real. You have a problem with "African Americans" dont you?

And you never answered my question. How long have you been in America? And when your people did come, what made then leave?

Yes those shits are funny as fuck but the acting in some of the movies are over dramatic, the production values are trash and the blatant religious proselytizing is a bit much.

African Americans hooking up with nollywood would really change things on both sides for the better

see what i mean... Better for who?

may be... JUST MAYBE, that's how they like they're movies???

i look at at movies from India, U.K, China, France, even the Islands like Trinni, Haiti, N Jamaica. and they all have their own styles...

because ppl from that culture, have their own way of being entertained.

Like i said man, u blk adolf hitlers need to stay over here.

Better for everybody because it would be a collaboration. And would give Access to bigger markets for African actors

what Access to a bigger market would collaborations with African Americans, really lead to? Nollywood is # 3 in the world. Black Hollywood in America is number ???

If Nollywood actors want access to bigger markets, they gotta holla at Holly Wood, aka wht folks.

Yet i do agree that, black directors and producers can help the African film industry. screen writers n actors tho? idk, every culture really has their own story and styles.

So just say that

Dont piss on their leg and say its raining. Like the obvious incentive to live in Africa aint to financial thrive. Cmon

Thats why @down said many black folk think like white folk now!

Common sense, watch for ANY nigga come to you with a unsolicited favor

That was the first thing you mentioned

So your impetus for the thread and therefore the impetus to inva---sorry, collaborate w/ Nollywood was: struggling black actors/struggling black American film? Yes or no. Lol

nollywood is big but only because the population in nigeria and the numbers of nigerians around the world is big greater access to a wider markets means nollywood stars and directors could break internationally which means more money and more investment.

how many nollywood movies can you watch on netflix??? how many korean movies can you watch on netflix???? do you understand what i am getting at

There are certain industries that a nation should protect in their infancy but from a economic perspective it's time for nollywood to break internationally and black americans working with nollywood actors would be a great way to do that

Poor wording. But like I said, what I'm saying wont make sense to you because you already have shown you have that "us vs them" mentality when it comes to AA, and i wasn't even trying to approach it like that.

And I never used the word STRUGGLING. You did. Many of these black actors have skills, money and connections to resources from Hollywood. Not to say they NEED it, but coming with ideas and something to put on the table is much better than coming with and open hand.

But then again, THEY (yall) don't need us "AA" tho....

That's what I'm getting at. They are making movies for their own. And are profitable doing so. So while continuing to do the things that work in their country, what about the untapped market? Even tho yall are calling the movies "wack", their has to be some appeal for them to be doing so well.

Big name Nigerian actors/actresses along with recognizable AA faces in movies with a traditional Nollywood feel. Even if AA are jusy apart of the production to give insight for the new audiance, Could those be promoted abroad?

LOL bruh. Niggas though

Thread premise was positive but I've just been reading a lotta negativity and pessimism

@Judge_Judah regarding your questions I know the S. African movie industry is probably the best in the African continent as regards technical ability

The Nigerian industry needs investment and a bit of intellect however. It's mostly for profit and as the OP stated some of them movies are made in the space of a week hence the shabby nature of them..

I also stated this regarding African fashion. Someone like KanYe West cries and begs for European acceptance and gets shitted on when the African continent is still untapped in that industry with rich vibrance..

i do, and it's white folks, white folks, white folks...

we're talking about blks in america, and markets in Africa.

what does blk americans have to do with NetFlix, in terms of CEO decisions?

and if Nollywood want to expand here in the states they'll holla at ppl in Holly Wood aka White folks...

The biggest recent interntional black star Idris Elba, had his big break from The Wire which was made by David Simon. White folk...;

again Blks need to start our own shit, and SUPPORT. recently DeShuna Spencer, started this thing call

kweliTV. look it up and see what's it about, it's like a Netflix oriented around Blk media, hopefully WE ALL SUPPORT so that it becomes big like NEtFlix, and get NollyWood movies on there.

I think nollywood could blow the fuck up they just need to adapt their style a little bit more so that it can break internationally AND IT Would benefit all parties involved.
