Should Rappers Have Less Songs make the final mixtape/album

I don't think the total number of songs matter, especially today when rappers focus on crossover appeal. But, I think all albums should at least have 5 dope tracks on it minimum. Nothing worst then an album with only 1 or 2 good joints

That's that No Limit mentality, though. Back in the days dudes used to be amped when they saw a 24 or 28 track song list. Problem then is the same as it is now: 4 of those are certified replay-heavy bangers and the other 20+ are forgettable.

The mixtape age has produced a lot of great songs, but it's killing the artists. KRIT, J. Cole, etc. have given whole classic albums and singles away for free just to get label attention, and then get signed to be told, "Ya know, your singles aren't hitting their mark."

Damn... I was gonna post this shit myself. Most albums pre-No Limit were around 10-12 tracks. No Limit changed that by releasing albums with 20+ tracks, most of which was pure garbage. I actually argued with a friend at a record store back inna day over this. I can't remember what I was buying, but it had something like 14 tracks on it, meanwhile the No Limit joint he was about to buy had some 2198349874637324 tracks on it. He was geeked as fuck over it too and I was like "Quality over quantity bruh, that shit's gonna be garbage" and it was on from there.

As far as mixtapes are concerned, they're the biggest contributor to the demise of hip hop right now. Mixtapes used to be about a DJ actrually mixing some shit and you would let your boy spit fire over somebody else's instrumental. Now these dudes are taking songs that SHOULD be on an album and putting them out as "mixtapes". Shit is backwards as fuck if you ask me.

EDIT: Just remembered what album I was buying: The Slim Shady LP. 14 actual songs with 6 skits.

I don't think Scarface has a album with more than 14 songs besides my homies and that's a 2 disc compilation.

mixtape wise i'm not tripping off you putting 20+ songs...some of them junts would have just been unreleased material anyway. but your album should be shorter and more precise and have some direction

I think it does matter because many rappers don't know how to pace themselves with the dope songs they make. Many rappers are dropping allot of dope album shit on their mixtape then running out of hits for their album. Then other rappers blow most of their hits on their first album instead of saving some for the sophomore debut.
