Remember this

Former Heavyweight boxing champion has been in the news much lately, but not for knocking out his opponent. Holyfield has been the topic of much discussion over his inability to pay child support and the fact that his $10 million home is in foreclosure. But with all of his financial troubles, Holyfield claims in an interview with ESPN that he will tithe before any other obligations such as paying his mortgage. The interview is from a show ESPN produced about the relationships between stars and televangelists that will air this Sunday. Many televangelists preach variations of the “prosperity gospel,” which teaches its followers that through tithing, they’ll be rewarded not just spiritually but also financially. Holyfield has given millions of dollars( over $20 Million to date) to Creflo Dollar’s World Changers Church in Atlanta, ESPN’s John Barr reports.

Check out an excerpt from Sunday’s piece:

John Barr: “You would pay your tithe before you would pay your own house payment?”

Evander Holyfield: “(nodding head) Because I know that tithe, me paying that tithe, it’s going to better me off in the long run.”

“I can’t sit here and tell you I know all the goings on of that whole ministry, and all the money that they make and where it all goes. I have no idea. But I feel good about being involved with them as individuals and what they’re trying to do. And as of right now I’m very comfortable with that.” – Kurt Warner, on being on the board of a ministry essentially under Senate investigation.

i know someone that told me they would do the same if they fell into money

Real shit tho i wished more pastors and imams taught this kinda message....if u truly living that life it should be no reason why u shouldnt be prosperous...Allah wants u to have bread!!

i lowkey feel this way too maybe people are taking it the wrong way

Given that these folks are supposed to be the emissaries of a carpenter turned vagabond minister who scoffed at material wealth, I'm gonna have to say no, they shouldn't.

There should. Not be a person in their church without a meal and shelter.

good point recently there was a church that asked for donation to fix the pastors helicopter blades he wanted it to do gods work dont believe me google it

A Texas pastor is being accused of “blasphemy” after he sent out a fundraising plea promising that God would give a new car in “52 days or 52 weeks” to anyone who chipped in $52 to fix his helicopter.

LMAO fuck religion and the silly motherfuckers that follow it

Why you niggas keep asking why the preacher got to have him a nice house or why the preacher got to have a nice car dont ask no questions just give the money

Of course he has to show the blessing "God" has given him so the congregation sees and has something to strive for (they just want to be as blessed as he). People don't understand "God" maybe, but they see and understand a nigga that has money, hoping God blesses them for their tithe. Ask a millionaire how to become a millionaire not a beggar.

Now if they want to do that fine, are they getting played on their fear/love of God? Yes and for being a deceiver I hope he burns in the hell of his choice.

I don't see how super religious Bible-Thumpers can have a problem with this but still say they live their lives based on what is taught in the Bible. Because as I understand, there is nothing in the Bible that prohibits preachers having a nice lifestyle. In fact, there are passages that promote it, as I understand them.

My aunt lost her home last year sending all her money to a pastor. She didn't even attend the church, she watched him on tv. Stupid bitch, you get no sympathy from me. Black people are the most brainwashed people on the planet when it comes to religion. Were the most praying muthafuckas too, yet we still at the bottom. That book fucked are head up, not mine though. A lot of these pastors, oh I mean pimps are full of shit.

The bible has alot to say about people who are "rich"...

Mark 10:25

"It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, then for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God

"

Somebody lying..

the whole concept of paying a tithe is an old testament one i don't know why christians still hold to it.

Because most dont study for themselves and see the root of these doctrines these unlearned preachers are regurgitating.

the scriptures most preacher u to justify tithing are twisting it anyway

These cats are entertainers..

and they use that bullshit frailty of man shit as a buffer.. to do ill shit and say.. well just by being a man im a sinner..

And yeah these followers are idiots.. the word wont disappoint but the man will.. stop idolizing the messengers.

There is nothing wrong with tithing. People just don't understand what it's supposed to be. Basically, churches are like big clubs that you're a part of. Tithing is just paying your dues. If you feel strongly about your organization, paying the dues should never be an issue especially since it's a requirement you know about when you join up.

Tithes are also usually applied to the upkeep, maintenance, and other things relevant to the functioning of the church such as the electricity bill and some of the salaries for people there. So really, it's not that bad. The problem comes in the addition of all these other offerings that in turn take away from what tithing was meant for and opening that money up to be usurped by people like crooked preachers.

As to the topic question, from a Biblical stance, pastors shouldn't be getting rich off the church. Jesus specifically told his disciples not to take gifts or money for spreading the word, only food. Basically he was saying that they should only take what they need to live. Now if you make some concessions for modern times, pastors should get paid, but it should be a fair wage that allows them to live a reasonable life. They shouldn't be balling out of control on the church's dime.

From a practical sense it's also wrong. Pastors are supposed to spread the unfiltered truth of the Word. However, if their salaries are being paid by the people they are leading, then that can lead to a conflict of interest. People are not always going to be happy with you when you tell them the truth. Will pastors continue to tell the truth and do the right thing when people who don't agree with what they say threaten to take some of that money away? Not only that, but a lot of the times the pastors twist the Word in order to justify their own opulence. The Bible preaches humility, but I once heard a preach give a sermon where she was basically cosigning being cocky simply because she had a lot of money and was pretty arrogant about that fact.

Yall all in an uproar about them balling claiming there spending the church's money but not one of you asked what were they day job? not saying they're not crooked but.some pastors have lucrative day jobs
