their were some old white men on tv last night debating on obamas way of thinking compared to bill clintons way of thinking..

they basically said.. clinton will be in a wet suit in the gulf tryna to patch it up.. calling up the chairman of BP 24/7, etc.

in reality, blame BP for not having a solution or plan for these emergencies.. you gotta have a plan for the plan, in case the plan fails, etc. etc. cuz of BP.. the whole oil industry will suffer

Obama just needs to take the criticism.. and continue trying to fix this mess we are in.. we are not backing out of afghanistan any time soon.. we will be out there for decades to come.. maybe tackle the little things he promised so when elections come- you cant say he was totally useless..

if bush did 2 terms.. im down with obama to do the same..

I co-sign what you said, but Republicans and others should shut up now when it comes to the oil spill because Obama got 20 billion from BP. He's going to set up an escrow fund that will pay out residents and those who lost their jobs in the Gulf.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100616/ap_on_bi_ge/us_gulf_oil_spill

Obama should start getting more credit for handling the oil spill, although I am still pissed off about the wars going on.

WASHINGTON — The White House and BP tentatively agreed on Wednesday that the oil giant would create a $20 billion fund to pay claims for the worst oil spill in American history. The fund will be independently run by Kenneth Feinberg, the mediator who oversaw the 9/11 victims compensation fund, according to two people familiar with the deliberations.

If the new range of flow estimates proves correct, and if BP is ultimately found guilty of gross negligence in actions it took that led to the Deepwater Horizon disaster, that would mean the company could be assessed fines of up to $258 million a day. Those fines could come on top of payments for cleanup costs and economic damage to Gulf Coast businesses.

Fearful that the spill could ultimately cost BP tens of billions of dollars, investors have driven the company’s market valuation down by 48 percent since the spill began, erasing $91 billion of shareholder value. BP shares rose more than 2 percent during regular trading on Tuesday, but then gave up all that gain and more in after-hours trading.

Mr. Obama has said all along that BP will pay for everything. People close to BP said that as asset-rich as the global oil giant is, its holdings are not so liquid that it can instantly set aside as many billions of dollars as the White House and leaders in Congress are seeking. Also being worked out are the terms by which BP would have to replenish the fund as it is drawn down.

BP officials are adamant that the company should not be liable for the lost wages of oil workers laid off because of the six-month moratorium that the Obama administration imposed on deepwater offshore drilling after the Deepwater Horizon explosion and fire. But Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and other administration officials repeatedly have cited idled oil workers as among those who could press claims.

Yeah, this is great news for people in the Gulf. How can anyone hate on Obama now when it comes to the oil spill??? I don't see Republicans getting anything done.....they talk a big game but never do shit to help regular people in the long run. Fuck them.

Frankly, I'm truly disgusted with how Republicans have been acting during this crisis......why are so many of these dickheads saying BP should be left alone??? Are you kidding me??? BP has caused billions upon billions of dollars in damages, and yet many Republicans somehow are blaming Obama for this, LMAO......

Can any Republicans here answer that for me?? Why are so many in your party acting like bitches right now?

if you like Obama, it's outrageous that people aren't satisfied with his actions; if you don't, his actions suck. this would be reversed if Bush was the president. so it goes.

most of the noise is coming from his detractors, people who are legitimately frustrated have a right to be so if their livelihood depends on the Gulf...since he's the HNIC, he's gonna get blamed for it, even as he does all he can...

but for his detractors, I'd like to remind them all that McCain and Palin were both all for "Drill, baby drill..." and I'd hate to see what type of response they would have had to the same situation...

oh, and if u wanna be really real about it...the incident that happened in '79, the Ixoctl (sp) oil spill? it took 10 months to stop the flow...it also took 2 relief wells...and u know what?? even after the 2 relief wells were done, the spill didn't stop right away...

^bolded and underlined in case someone wants to bump the thread come August...

I did not know the bolded. But I did know we were screwed and that Obama can not physically do anything.

HE CAN, however, push congress to make sure this doesnt happen again and a REAL push. Not the bullshit he pulled last night in that pointless ass speech.

1. A new branch in FEMA that deals with these types of disasters.

2. A new push for federal government study that makes sure if this happens in the future the GOVERNMENT can handle it within weeks at the expense of the company.

3. A law that says you cant drill it if you cant fix it.

THats where I think Obama has failed. And Im sick of thinking, "Well maybe he knows something we dont." Fuck that...

I mean I know COngress has to pass those laws but REALLY...we really cant get that shit done? REALLY? Is it THAT bad in Washington?

2 and 3 should be implemented, the first one is just more paperwork in the long run. ANOTHER govt agency is the last thing that the people in the Gulf need right now. The agencies in existence should ALREADY be ready to take care of these disasters, agencies like, ohhh let's say, FEMA. And actually, number 3 is already a law.....it's just that BP lied about how much they can fix.

And for the record, things are THAT bad in Washington. Corporations run the USA, the rest of us are just bystanders. Obama should accept foreign aid ships to skim the oil as soon as possible, one of the biggest things he fucked up on. He wanted American ships to take care of it, but obviously, it's not enough. The more ships that can skim the oil, the better.

In David Rockerfellers last book he stated for the record him and his Family & Friends have and are in pursuit of a One World Government and have been for decades. They call it "The Work Of Ages". With that said take a look at the world around you............................. Less than 2% of the Worlds Population hold over 98% of its wealth and for some reason you still believe these people dont exist. LOL They are everywhere but never there.

Honestly, I dont expect anything. Only thing I expect is for him to do what he can to make sure BP is held fully liable. Why the hell is their a cap on oil company liabilities?? Other than that, the Feds need to just stay out of the way.

good shit!

with Chaney and Rumsfeld keeping their STOCK options while taking political jobs and making those respected companies more powerful. And Geithner and Volker leaving bank jobs to work for the

government, then bail the banks out, yeah the amerikkkan people are being played.

Big Time.

Its really crazy especially when it comes to Geithner and Volker. Geithner was on the Board @ the New York Federal Reserve Bank (Which is a Privately OWNED BANK) & Volker was an Exec over at Goldman Sachs who thru out the turmoil on Wall St., their stock price has dropped below $125 a share. Sickening to say the least.

oh even Republicans are agreeing that needs to go

LOL @ this:

Rush Limbaugh said that the escrow fund would be a "slush fund," and wondered where the money would end up going: "Who's gonna get this money? Union activists? ACORN people? Who's gonna get this money. Let's keep a sharp eye on who Feinberg gives this money to. Because I'm telling you, this is just another bailout fund, called something else, and we'll see who gets it."
