Tupac sales and legend was drastically aided by his death, he had to die to do all that. Jay- z became a legend WHILE ALIVE.

Pac died at age 25 having accomplished all of that ish, being in movies and being the best seller, All Eyes on Me was shittin on everyone...EM seems to be doing just fine with his numbers with Jay nowhere to be seen, rofl...and Em came out after that nigga too...rofl...Biggie died, so did Big Pun why ain't they selling like Pac? Exactly!

Tupac sold less than 10 million albums when he was alive, it took his death to sell all those albums and become a martyr (not that the rapist is one to me).

I could care less what Em does, Em sold 5 million copies off of Encore, ONE OF THE WORST ALBUMS EVER MADE.

The fact that you're trying to clown Jay comparing his sales to Eminem, only makes Nas look worse considering Jay-z has done what Nas has done 3 times over.

Biggie's sales and legend did get a boost from his death too. As for Pun, he died an embarrassing death (ate himself to death), of course he isn't respected. Getting shot is more appealing to these ignorant niggas out here.

Pac died in 96 the same year that his biggest album had come out when was he supposed to do all his numbers, still debuted at number 1, went gold in the first week, the 7 day theory came out that same year sold over 600,000 the first week, also debuted at number 1 and the second biggest first week sales that year, he died in that year, them albums were always goin sell big, they were on the way too, ofcourse his death heightned that...Still Biggie died and he aint nowhere to be seen, 50 cent or nelly prolly outsold that nigga by now, rofl...

Im going by your logic, you the one that brought sales into this shyt, now you crying, rofl....I been on that to make niggaz see how dumb it is to do that, but whatever nigga i'll continue to play ya game and Em still outsold way more than that nigga and he came out after him...

Encore was garbage, like Kingdom Come type garbage lmaooo....

And why ain't Big did the same numbers as Pac you ain't answer that yet, you said it got a boost but he aint nowhere near Pac's record sales, fuck outta here!

Thats the thing that I dont get about these haters....I guess a gold album is good for everyone except jay...500k sold in a matter of months yet nobody was checking for sun...lol....dude couldnt get a deal at some point, so they started their own label and it was on from there this was a timing thing

yep def a timing thing, specially since he been trying to get on for 10 years at that point(1986)...rofl...this nigga was trying to get on while nwa, pe and ice-t was poppin, rofl.....

I'd try to start my own shyt too by then, lmaooo...

Let me not forget that the 7th day theory dropped by Makaveli, Mobb deep hell on earth, Atliens by Outkast, Redman Muddy Waters came out the fuggees dropped to...Who the fuck was really checkin for Jay-z to drop, can't be serious...

BTW, ALL EYES ON ME, OWNED THAT YEAR WITHOUT A SHADOW OF A DOUBT!

Well yeah, All eyez on me was the absolute biggest. I remember when it dropped Record stores devoted the whole front of their store to it. It went like 6 times platinum before he died. He was already the man. Jayz was kinda just comin out but he was comin out strong but couldnt really compare anybody to Pac at that time Bone was huge but they were a group. My thing is downing somebody to up somebody else is insecurity. (and gives yall an opportunity to do what you do on here i get it).

It's about opportunity and while he wasn't signed yet, he was making noise in the mainstream. He was doing collabos with Big Daddy Kane, Mic Geronimo, Big L etc before he popped.

he wasn't nowhere near the forefront and he was older than the niggaz that were running rap in its greatest era, and was never able to knock down them doors until that era came to an end...

HE WEREN'T ABLE TO COMPETE/SURVIVE, his shyt wasnt good enough!

does 96 count? afterall he did drop one of the best albums of that year and went gold that year. I would assume 96 was apart of that "era".

like I said it's about opportunity, not about his music per say. i heard wu tang got passed over in favor of black sheep and it's 2013 who has had a bigger impact on hip hop wu tang or black sheep. I'm sure jay was passed over in favor of lesser acts. he along with cats like dmx, big l, ja rule, big pun etc were all on the underground scene in the mid 90's getting ready to blow up.

96 was the year that Pac died ma nigga, It was written had dropped, Big was comin out with life after and death and making mad noise, the doggfather by snopp came out too, no one was giving a fuck about Jay, and thats real...Let revisionists tell it how the fuck they want, Jay was only making noise to them niggaz that had him eating cookies for 48 or 72 hours in order to recoup the shyt he fucked up...

he wasn't the biggest star at the time, but he did go gold so i mean SOMEBODY had to know who he was and in his case 500,000 records sold proved that.

His videos for Aint No Nigga and Can't Knock The Hustle were getting spins on BET in 96 and were getting spins on hot97. so he wasn't a total nobody.

compared to the niggaz that was poppin and who's videos i posted on the top of the thread he was a nobody...Gold wasn't shyt in that era yo and thats real, the nigga was completely local!

He wasn't even on chief keef level impact and buzz wise, niggaz was more like lil reese, rofl....

You're acting like Jay was totally unheard of at that time. He wasn't popping like Big, Pac, Nas, Wu, Bone Thugs, etc but don't act like he wasn't being played on tv and radio. he didn't truly crossover until 98.

It took a Annie Sample to make Jay-z cross over...

False, Can i get a was the song what crossed over. Songs like Money ain't a thing, What's my name, and Annie only compounded his buzz.

..but Annie sold him 5 million on Volume 2...Can I Get A...was big but Little Orphan Annie busted those commercial doors wide open for him.

You serious, money? "Hard Knock Life" was the record that really really crossed over. That famous Annie sample is what did it, especially for white people.

Can I Get A.. got over too but not as much. It mostly crossed over due to it being featured on the Rush Hour sdtk.

LOL @ comparing Pac & Jay's sales. At least break down Pac's sales as alive & dead.

How you goin do that when he died in the same year that All Eyes on me and The 7 day theory dropped and they both debuted at number one, and the first week sales sold more than gold. The 7 day theory had the 2nd highest selling first week in that year, All eyes on me had sold 5 mil, how much did you think they were going to go on to sale, when they were already killing like that?sm...any one that remains partial wouldn't be able to deny that shyt...

The reason im even talking sales is cuz thats what someone brought up in order to make Jay seem greater than what he is and Pac been died 17 years and he still nowhere near it, smh...Em has been able to get there with less albums than Jay, and since yall love that sales talk, Jay can't even touch Em, shyt 50 cent prolly catching up to him too...don't blame me yall chose to bring up that sales shyt, not my fault he can't compete there too.

I don't understand the significance. When it's your time it's your time obviously then it wasn't his time. When he finally hit the scene he made the most of it. Same with Em, DMX, 50 shit anybody. It's what you do with it when you finally get your shot. I don't think Pac's and Big's death had anything to do with Jay blowing up. It just happened to be something happened. Yall niggas make it sound like their deaths came from the result of Jay dropping RD. if that's the case yall give Jay too much power.
