It aint hard to do, it allows you to put third party applications (Apps you dont have to buy through itunes) and things like that. Is it safe? Depends on wether u do it right or not. If u do it right, its great, if you fuck up, often ur ipod goes with it. If you fuck ur ipod up apple knows when it tried to be jailbroke and will void the warranty. Actually, I think its the Iphone that gets fucked for good. If you mess up with the Ipod you can just use Itunes and restore it. I think.

But I hacked mine. It's pretty simple. Check which firmware you have and then look for a hack for it.
