I get annoyed with the tone of helplessness when these statements are made by artists and people who have enough pull to put others on. But if I ask "why not" I guess I'll get the

This is not new, though. For over fifteen years, the diminishing importance of Black people on the executive, A&R, label head, etc. has taken place. This is just reaching the pinnacle.

People talk about the internet, but because the profit margins in the recording industry is bleeding, it is really stamping out a lot of minority voice in mainstream music (creatively and in the corporate world).

Some that miss the point think this is stating the flood of white artists. Nope. Quite the contrary. There will always be black artists in hip-hop, it is just who is picked to be put on is what changes, and remember..there is always someone willing to coon for $$$, however fleeting the dollars may be.

For example, look at conscious rap. True conscious rap is more black-friendly than ever. Remember when conscious rap got co-op'd in the 90s and was a college radio/white yuppy type of sound and fanbase?

Now..Lupe making street records again is easier to relate to than these kingpin duck tales that gets spin. Conscious rappers have been speaking on all of the shit that Macklemore got buzz on, but these white rappers are being promoted as counter programming to the "popcorn" gangsta fantasy rap. White folks view all of this hip-hop shit as entertainment, so once they tired of buying the fantasy of being some hot coke dealer moving weight in D.C., pushing weight in a Lexus..now they want to cornily put down consumerism and materialistic values because they pop tags at a thrift shop. FOH.

Getting rid of the socially conscious rapper was the worst thing that could have happened to us.

The question we need to be asking: WHEN did the decline start and WHO is merely responsible for bringing in the bullshit? We all know the execs in power funded it but from an artist standpoint..WHO?

That sarcasm sucked

It wasn't supposed to be good

anyway

what I don't understand is why some fans complain about hip hop being dumbed down but pay no mind the other artist who aren't or either call them "lyrical miracle rappers or dictionary rappers or whatever corny names yall can come up with. Make up your minds. Some of you spend more time bitching about the culture than actually supporting what you like. Artist yall considered dumb down get more attention from yall then artist you like. Idk how we have more Drake haters on here but his threads do the most numbers.

Hip hop has alot of intelligent lyrics you all just choose to ignore it. We see next time an elzhi or killer mike thread is made how many of you niggas in here complaining will actually be in that thread compared to the next Trinidad fucking James thread

Another thing why is it when a southern nigga complains about hip hop, he gets cosigns but when a new York og says the same shit

Their music just wasn't deemed mainstream enough anymore. Even though every once in awhile you will get a record with a message on the radio.

But just as long as the beat is hot, the hook is catchy, and it makes bitches shake their asses. Nothing else matters. Hip hop is still recovering from the damage the ringtone era did to hip hop in the mid to late 2000's.

you right but hip hop isnt recovering from that. its just living with the effects of it. its like the ringtones are gone but the whack ass music is still around.

I think there has been a slow transition to lyricism in hip hop again. The dumb shit really isn't as prevalent as before IMO.

True, but the transition is too slow, and these new cats are gonna fizzle out before they make a real difference. A lot of these new niggas are just as dumbed down as the ringtone rappers, but they just say shit faster with more words. Kendrick, Drake, Wale and Cole are the only true multifaceted lyricists in the mainstream. Four dudes out of the dozens of other mufuckas with a record deal. Facemob may have a point come to think about it.
