Planet Of The Apes Rises Internationally

New promo brings fresh footage

18 June 2011 | Source: Coming Soon

Though we've had at least a couple of trailers for Rise of the Planet of the Apes, now comes one specifically targeted at us Brits (particularly given the release date mentioned). Take a look below.

No, it doesn’t try to shoehorn in the classic PG Tips chimps or insert a shot of Big Ben into the background of the big battle scene, but this new promo does offer up some fresh footage, particularly focused on Will (James Franco)’s relationship with his father (John Lithgow), the driving force behind his research into Alzheimer’s and other brain problems.

We get to see how chemically-tinkered chimp Caesar (Andy Serkis) bonds with the family, and how he’s more than willing to do anything to protect Lithgow when the moment calls for it. We also get more with Tom Felton, channelling his darker side once more as the son of Brian Cox’s brutal simian sanctuary owner.

But there’s also plenty of chimp action, and a chance for Caesar and co to go bananas (sorry).

With Rupert Wyatt directing, Rise of the Planet of the Apes will swing into UK cinemas on August 12.

Man, I was watching the trailer to that... And you can call me paranoid or whatever, but there were some serious racial undertones (or is it OVERTONES???) going on, if ya ask me. There were some not-so-subliminal messages going across the screen, if ya dig what I'm sayin'. And y'all know what I'm talkin' about... Don't play dumb. Anyway, I aint gonna go see it....

Looks like it should be pretty good. I like revolution/uprising movies. I'm probably gonna see it Thursday at the midnight release. I think it deals more with ethical questions surrounding animal testing more than racial undertones.

You do know the creator of the old school Planet Of The Apes movies did that to talk about racial issues right?

So someone makes a movie about apes taking over the planet, you read racism into it, but we're to assume the movie is racist? Although the motion capture artist for the movies was white? True.

Y'all know this is just a prequal for a 40 year old movie franchise???

even if it is claiming that black people are apes, the end of the original movie showed that the world really belonged to the apes all along.

so how is that bad???

I'm gonna catch it. Shit looks mad corny but I'm a sucker for that type of stuff.

T/s, u about 40 years late dogg, and the social commentary was definitely deliberate, not just about race but also about class stratification, nuclear weapons proliferation, and even the Vietnam War.

SIGH... So, I'm the angry, paranoid Black man who's just looking to make a problem outta nothin'? In the trailer I saw apes taking over neighborhoods; I saw apes fighting with the police; I saw poor, innocent White people forced to defend themselves against this evil ape invasion....... C'mon, now.. Who do y'all think those apes represent?

It reminds me of when Glenn Beck, after watching a speech from Barack Obama, said he felt like he was on "The Planet Of The Apes".... Yep, Beck actually said that!

Oh, and I'd like to post pics of Daisy Marie, but I'd probably get banned.
