I use to think that way until it was explained to me. Contrary to public opinion. Soundscan is not 100% accurate so the RIAA decided to stick with its original format. When a record company ships a certain amount of records it really means it sold the product. It is not cosignment like most people think.

So if a record company sells 500k to retailers. That is what they & the artist get paid off. Not Soundscan. So an artist should get credit for the units sold to retailers.
