Real Hip-hop, What's your definition?

I wouldn't consider that hip-hop. Simple rhyme scheme. Simple lyrics. It's rap. There's a place for it. Ridin' in the car or whatever. Is that Haystack?

Real hip-hop should be more than the music, it should get to your soul. J. Cole, Fabolous, Nas, and Little Brother are some of the few real hip-hop artists. When I listen to their music it's like I can feel what they're trying to say about society, the rap game, the government, or anything instead of most rappers who just talk about a materialistic lifestyle that isn't relevant to 90% of us.

Ok, my bad. I see in the title now. That kind of music is cool wit me, but I just think it's not exactly hip-hop. It's more for bumpin in the car or while you play madden or some shit.

Stealth Bomber, you got it exactly. There are a lot of hip-hop cats out there, but you gotta look because they generally aren't the ones selling big numbers. They got all these fad rap cats out today.

I agree with that. I'm not saying what I like or don't like, but what classifies something as being hip-hop? I listen to all types of music.

My boy's shit here, like it or not, is what I call hip hop. Throwing all the shit you go through down on a track. Not only anger, not only happiness, but all that shit.

Real Hip Hop is a myth. It's just a term used by the purists and snobs. I can't stand listening to nerds rap about the government, politics and all that other shit. Shit is fucking boring and it's not entertaining. Music is supposed to entertain. So just give me a bangin beat and I'm good. I prefer materialistic rap over nerd rap.

The purpose of hip-hop is to express yourself through lyricism.

expressing yourself as to talking about your past, your life, struggles, and your future.
