They're useful for posters who'd prefer to be lazy instead of quoting a bunch of posts.

I think at times they are over used, and some posters base their while posting style off of them.

I remember when quoted for emphasis was the closest thing you'd ever get to a GOAT.

Then you got reactions like feelings and wack which are overused as well.

Some folks think every time you have a difference in opinion there is implication of feelings or its wack.
