Well there's undeground and mainstream and fans today are the mainstream listener so they don't care to know who MF Doom or Jay Electronica is. They like being force fed their music so I don't normally expect folks outside of a HIP HOP forum to know them. I know how to distinguish hip hop and rap fans

So in essence you can say hip hop lives on the internet nowadays

that was a very dope and true post, to add on anyone on a message board has a higher level of interest in HipHop as a culture to the point of seeking out a message board to discuss it, so they of course are gonna be more versed on artists from the underground and defintely more devoted fans of the artists they enjoy...
