Rhymefest ran for some office in Chicago, and Uncle Luke ran for mayor in Miami. To answer your question, I think Jay Z can have a good run for an office. He's very articulate, and knows how to reach out to people.

good responses... it would also depend on the size and demographics of the city they run in...

i mean, u look at people like arnold shwarz or sonny bono rip, jessie ventura, etc. they managed to add a complete career on an already successful career...

Ronald Reagan was an actor before he became president.

Jigga (and fif to a lesser extent) have already done it in a manner of speaking, not by running for office of course but by getting their feet in the door of elite financial circles.

Far as rappers running for office, I believe luther campbell ran for miami mayor, or at least talked about it. Common is too boring, mos def's political knowledge all comes from youtube documentaries about 9/11 conspiracies and aliens, tupac is dead... so no sign the names mentioned so far

It would have to be a rapper without a rap sheet. I dont even know if Pac was allowed to vote, nevermind run for elected office after serving a prison sentence and violating his parole.

Rappers who could do it:

Talib Kweli
David Banner
Andre 3000 - i would have voted for him on The Shield

yo this is some deep shit, but... imagine they could make a seamless transition? like leave the rap game at a high point in their career.. leave it all behind... become successful top-notch politician... same elite status, different game... like not drop a fucking step between the two... that would impressive and respectable...a model for everyone...

nobody like a pac or mos def will ever be allowed to reach the higher levels of politics. that's not who the powers that be want to have anywhere near them.

I could see a jay doing it or a 50cent (he would be the perfect republican bully). but no nas, no lupe, no jay electronica. they don't fit in that much, theres nothing to gain from them for the powers that be. nobody gets put in a position if the people who put them on can't benefit from it. pac running a bigger city in the us would be a big fucking threat to the establishment.

now if a guy like obama is the president of the states: not that big of a threat. why: he's not "black" to them. i mean it's great that the american people actually voted for a black guy but you have to take into account what has to be done before in order to even get to the point where you're able to run for president. you have to appeal to certain groups, no matter what skin color you are..

if David Banner got a strong team around him, he could DEFINITELY win some sort of political office. And be damn good at it too.

Mos Def, definitely. He's always been socially conscious and opinionated.

most poiticians are former or practing lawyers/attorneys etc...

why do they make it to office?

lawyers KNOW HOW TO MAKE AN ARGUMENT and know how TO PRESENT THEMSELVES...

if elected office was about intelligence we would have scientist in all spots in govt.

50 knows how to sway peoples opinions
