Timbo and Missy

Nigga Clipse is a top 3 duo so whats this "cant believe im saying this" shit

Because their area isn't exactly represented very intelligently on this board....nothing against the group

I agree with @trendsetta1030

State prop put Philly on. Everybody and they mama knew will was from Philly but he didn't open the doors for record labels starting to check for Philly.

State prop came with 7 dope spitters that took over the roc. With opened the doors for acts like cassidy, meek and whoever.

So when Jazzy Jeff won the DMC contest in 1986, Cash Money won the DMC contest in 1987 and DJ Miz won in 1988 people weren't checking for Philly?

Tell me how many platinum or gold acts that were repping Philly hard in the 80's or 90's.

Well Will Smith sold 9X Platinum in 1997

The Roots blew up in the mid 90s.

And you seem to be ignoring the fact that Philly had the best DJs

Furthermore, The Roots are still around and State Property is defunct.

Wtf y'all smoking on?? Imma say this as a person who's lived across different countries in the world.

No one thinks of black thought when u mention Philly. Some might think of will smith.

This isn't who repped it first. This is about who opened the door for other Philly acts.

Nelly opened the door for St Louis and everybody in the world knew what it was. NWA for Compton. Snoop for LBC. Wu for Shaolin.

Of course there has been others before. But they didn't have worldwide appeal and opened up doors for people to start checking for the city.

Twist, common, do or die and Kanye from Chicago but they didn't open up doors for the rest of the scene.

There weren't A&Rs and kids checking for Chicago rappers until Cheif Keef blew up.

Nobody thinks of State Property when you mention Philly. They think of Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince. If you were from my generation you'd remember The Hilltop Hustlers.

Thats because you're a teenager. If you were a teenager in the 80s you'd think of the Hilltop Hustlers the same way teenagers in the 00s think of State Property. And don't tell me there's more teenagers now than there were in the 80s.

And anybody who's really into Hip Hop acknowledges that the Philly DJs raised the bar from what the New York DJs were doing.

I'm 25. I'm a hip hop head, grew up on fresh Prince and the roots. When piracy came around when I was about 12 I studied all the classics as did everyone I know. U don't have to be born in that era to know the music.

As you don't have to be 60 years old to know about dizzy Gillespie and Ella Fitzgerald. Ive studied it.

And I'm telling u what I know 5 grand. U might like those artists because u grew up with them and they mean something to you.

But in reality, no one knows who they are and A&Rs weren't checking for Philly.

Will was making more money off TV and movies than music. And roots weren't worldwide known representers of Philly as say a NWA for Compton.

Again I've been around the world and I'm saying what I know.
