Rappers That Single-Handedly Put Their City/State/Country On The Map?

Trenton NJ? Boston?

yall are missing the point of the thread. It's not about to biggest repper of the city.

It's who put them on the map! map!!

Do we really think of Trenton as a hip hop city? can you name several mainstream rappers from trenton or boston?

And for Hampton Roads you might as well say Virginia. Every rapper or artist from Virginia names the state as a whole.

Very few rappers outside of NYC and Los Angeles have managed to do that.

Rappers in Brooklyn don't even rep the borough as a whole, they put their neighbor-hood or project on the map.

E.I. Marcy, Brownsville, Bed-Stuy, Flatbush etc.

TLDR

A rapper that opened the floodgates for greedy record labels to sign anything that comes out of that city. Thats what putting your city on the map means.

Like for what Cheif Keef did for Chicago.

Not saying Common, Do or Die, Twista and Kanye didn't rep Chicago accordingly. But Cheif Keef made it the hottest city for records execs from 2012 to 2014 and brought a new sound to the masses.

Like how Snoop and Warren brought g-funk and Put LBC on the map in 93-94

Your opinions on UK rap aside but

boy-in-da-corner.jpg

Dizzy Rascal was the one that paved the way for UK rappers in mainstream hip hop.

Not Slick rick, not monie luv.

Dizzy! The first rapper played around the world that didn't speak Queens english and spoke how the people really speak over there.

Do yall agree?

@englishdude @CeLLaR-DooR @blue_london

Can we claim slick rick back? Dizzy is probably correct my Knowledge of the uk scene is at 2 songs maximum

&

@englishdude & @CeLLaR-DooR You have to save this

I want to say OutKast, considering Atlanta wasn't really being recognized until after they blew up. I couldn't name anybody rapping from there outside of Goodie Mob until at least the late 90's when Crunk started catching on.

WISE Z repped Trenton, even though he wasn't born there. Jay-z lived his highschool years in Trenton and battled Wise Intelligence from PRT. Dj Juice is a well known mixtape DJ in the 90s from Trenton. One of the Odd Future members from Trenton.

Alright so who put Brooklyn on?

We can easily say Wu tang for Staten Island and Krs for the Bronx.

But who's that one Brooklyn rapper that sticks out the most? Keep in mind Brooklyn was already a staple before hov

This is true. Outkast indirectly helped alot of southern cities.

Kardinal Official out of Canada?

Drake did more as far as mainstream exposure

kardinal is the one that showed that place even existed to hip hop folks. canada is right there and most americans think of it as a million miles away. when kardinal first dropped it was ' a rapper from canada?' that's odd

Master p put Louisiana on the map imo

he put new orleans on, baton rouge wasn't on. rappers from other parts would have to go and pretend they were from new orleans, until boosie came and put baton rouge in the mix
