I don't know if he was a rapper, but I heard good things about that young dude Yams who just passed. Heard he was quite a businessman.

Kanye West...

I don't like the phoenix Kanye Kardashian that rose from his ashes

Im on mobile but G slimm from New Orleans was way ahead of his time dude had a west coast style but dope story telling ability. Got shot at age 22 when he was bout to sign with a major

I was just bumping that "Fours,Deuces and Treys" album the other day

bruh was dope, like u say he used to tell them geto stories and he was on Big Boy Records with Fiend n Mystikal

and yea the west coast influence is heavy but it seems like alot of them cats from the N.O.

in the early to mid 90's was influenced by the west like Lil Slim and Kilo G who also got killed young

dude was only 20 years old when they shot'em but i think he was one of, if not the first artist on CMR

but here go a couple of G-Slimm tracks

Co-sign the ones who posted Magnolia/Soulja Slim, G-Slimm, Twelve O Clock, VL Mike, Big Ed. To add to that for me was Yella Boy from UNLV. I was listening to dude growing up and he was always the stand out on any of those old Cash Money albums I heard.

All jokes aside...

my vote would be for Kid Hood.

He recorded a legendary verse on A Tribe Called Quest's "Scenario" remix and his phrase "I'm a bad, bad man" has provided countless deejays with a phrase to scratch during DMC / ITF dj battles over the years.

Unfortunately, he was gunned down before the remix was released and blew up and the only other recorded rhymes we have of him are on extremely degraded, low quality tape.

This was at a time when the whole Native Tongues movement was poppin' and I think Hood could have been a breakout artist...
