My point in saying that is these are teams that ALMOST made the playoffs in a game where all that matters is winning. But if you didnt do enough to make the playoffs how are u exactly maximizing anything? The season if over, theres other teams still playing...and they aint. Havent most of the COY in the past at least made the playoffs? i may be wrong. They had the 8th weakest schedule in the league (48 percent, pats 6th strongest 53 percent) also, so you are giving props for winning against mediocre teams. That last season issue shouldnt facotr in because every team had a level playing field to improve except with draft position

Well when you say maximize talent, shouldn't you at least achieve something with that season? I know they were 3-13, but what do they have to show for it exactly? If thats the case Tom Cable went undefeated in his division, but would you consider him? The Rams had the number one pick and missed the playoffs by a game, but is steve spagnolo C.O.Y? He maximized the hell out of nothing. Im not downplaying the coaching job he did, but hes THIRD BEST in his own division, let alone his conference. But the seeding debate is another matter. Maybe if they werent 4-4 at home....they lost to the Lions for gods sake. You should be better after year after year of hgh draft picks. BB is more impressive from the stand point he has alot more responsibilty other than just coaching. But its the C.O.Y award...Whos maxamizing the talent they have more if they are winning 14 games with a bunch of low round pics and free agents nobody wanted? Kyle arrington, wes welker, Bejarvis green ellis, danny woodhead?? Rob Nikovich?? all undrafted. Tom brady, sixth round. Dan koppen 5th round. And they got rid of randy moss. They had their first pick at 27th overall Devin McCourty. Thats more impressive than high pick rookies contributing. They are supposed to be more talented. I like J. Freeman, but was a high first round pick. The Highest pick on the entire pats team is Brandon meriwether i believe

I think we got Freeman 19th overall, so that's not that high a pick. And I think the Pats got Mayo early with the 49ers first round pick.

And also bringin up undrafted players, and players like Brady is going against ur point. Don't say other teams have a huge advantage by picking earlier in the draft, then point out quality players picked up really late in the draft.

How is that going against my point when i say its more impressive to win with a team full of undrafted players than high draft picks that are more likely and more talented to succeed? You do have a better chance of getting elite prospects earlier. Thats the whole point in the draft....TB has picked in the top ten for how many yrs straight? They should be good by now. Im more impressed that the pats havent had that many shots at top tier talent, but do their homework. And BB has the final say on who they pick. Morris has to take what he is given by the GM and do the best with it.

Why are you still using making the playoffs as an argument when the Seattle Sehawks just made the playoffs at 7-9??? Seriously...playoffs...playoffs?!?!

Marvin Lewis won coach of the year last year because the Bengals made a turnaround from 4-11 to 10-6 he improved his squad by six wins, Raheem improved his by 7 wins.

Their schedule??

They beat Seattle who are in the playoffs, they beat the Superbowl-Champs N.O., and they beat Cleveland, Cincinatti, Washington, A.Z., Frisco, and the Rams ON THE ROAD>.

Not bad for the youngest team in the leauge that overcame 8 key injuries during the season...

LOL the Pats got 4 of their wins against Miami & Buffalo remember??
Strongest sheduale huh??

But they still had a waaaaay stronger schedule. TB DIDNT BEAT ONE WINNING TEAM OTHER THAN N.O. And chase daniels fininshed the game! The whole freaking point of playing the game aint to make the playoffs????? Its to say, hey we beat a bunch of cupcakes and we still GOING Fishing... And they still couldnt do it with the SIXTH easiest schedule. Mediocrity should not be celebrated. Ya'll lost to the LIONS!!! Every team they beat sucked ass

They only lost to one team with a losing record too. And the Saints pulled their starters when they were already losing cuz Brees was getting hit, and their starters were getting hurt. I just told you last year they picked Freeman 19th overall, and we're picking 20th or something this year, so 1 straight year? How is a first round pick not top tier talent? You still usually end up with one of the top 2-3 people at their position. And I'm pretty sure the head coach is involved in the drafting process a lot more than you're giving him credit for.

This is not to be proud of. And they dont get a pass...they were playing backups like it was the fourth preseason game!

Im not trying to be over critical, i just factor in who they are actually beating to get that 10-6 record. They got a good young team, a good young coach. I just dont thin hes coach of the year playing against cupcakes...thats like the globetrotters gassing up beating the Generals.....The division aint getting any easier though...who you want them to take in the draft?

ok 1 slip up to a team with a losng record. Bucs did the same thing with the Lions. I don't watch college ball cuz it's not really my thing. But I want them to pick up a DE

Yes the Bucs lost to the Lions and the Patriots lost to the Cleveland Browns by 3 touchdowns.
Yes the Bucs beat a team with a winning record, they also have the same road record as the Patriots.

The object of any Coach is to win a Superbowl and the best chance you have to win one is to win as many games as possible to make the playoffs and get to the big game, because of the seeding sos and sov.

I tend to gauge teams w/ loss record w/ the level of talent and veteran leadership on their teams, many teams obviously underacheived Dallas, NY Giants, Cincy, Washington, San Diego, Indy, Denver, San Francisco and Minnesotta to name a few. Many teams played at their expected level N.O., Jets, Philly, Baltimore, Falcons, Pats, G.B and Chicago.

Some teams overacheived K.C., Jacksonville and Tampa Bay would be on that list.

Mediocrity is unacceptable, winning games is what its about.

They should add another playoff team instead of two more regular season games. Too many 10-6 teams not getting in. Happened to the pats the year TB got hurt

I'm not too mad with the number of teams. I don't like how the NBA has half the league in the playoffs. It does suck when quality teams don't make it though. Only risk is you might end up allowing more sorry ass teams in during some seasons.
