thats not really Tru.................the reason y he is Big rite Now is becasue the Hiphop Communtiy ( WHich is Mostly Black and LAtino) embraced him with opend Arms............NaS, LL Cool J, Jay-Z, Wu Tang, RedMan and Many other legnds all gave Dude thier Blessing.........He is after all 1 of the Best rappers out. His Lyricall Accumen is Rarely Matched..............the only problem I have with him is those tapes he had

I am not saying that legends haven't cosigned him, but I am just saying that in my experience there are not too many "minorities" who like him, there are some no doubt, but the ones that do not like him refer to the same things punisher__ was saying in his first post.

Does it exist? If it does, how do you feel about it?

I'll be the first to admit that I don't like Eminem because he's white. I feel as though he makes music, catering specifically to those that can relate to his struggles...adolescent, white teenagers. And I can't relate, because I'm not an adolescent, white teenager.

Is this racist of me? Or is it just reality?

god i thought i was the only one!

not for your reasons exactly but i just refuse to put him in my top 10 maybe even 20

i dont think white rappers are really all that good....

if they are decent they seem to get a pass

like that random white boy on an all black basketball team

just cause

I don't understand..... when people say Eminem is overrated, do they mean he's not one of the best in the game? Or do they just not really care much for his music?

Everybody has an opinion. A lot of ppl won't agree on everything.

Given the fact that most of the rappers we consider the best all say Eminem is nice should count for something.

That whole "I can't relate to Eminem" argument is bullshit.

The same rappers who make music y'all say y'all can relate to either got bodied on a track by Eminem, say he's one of the best or just give him his props cause he's nice. Would u say these rappers can relate to Eminem as well? LOL

If they can see past his "content" why can't y'all?

Stop tryna discredit the guy, he's a beast, he has his own lane and he would still murder the very best in the game if they were on the same track.

Really who can relate to My Name Is? the purpose of My Name Is was not for people to relate to that Song it was created simply to get Eminem a following and for people to buy his debut Album it was also made for people to laugh just a funny Song with ill humour

Eminem created most the Song's on his Album's that are deep, thought provoking & emotional for his black & white listeners to relate to as well as the follow up Singles

When people refer to Eminem as "overrated" it simply means that the amount of success/acclaim he has received, has not been warranted...taking the actual merit of talent/work into consideration. Is Em skilled? Yes. Does he have talent? Yes. But it's NOWHERE near the level that people make it out to be, IMO.

People tend to gravitate towards artists they can relate to, on a personal level. I've never battled with prescription drug abuse, I don't hate my mother, I don't have a stalker ex-wife, and all that other looney tune shit. In fact, on a larger scale, I'd say the average Black person does not deal with this...which is probably why we can't "relate" to Em's material. He doesn't make music for us. He makes music for adolescent, White teens...those same teens you see on the Maury show, cussing their parents out, or some shit like that.

Acknowledging skill is one thing. But being able to "relate" to his content is something different altogether.

imo i think em has given hip hop a wider fan base that reaches across the great Atlantic & pacific ocean's.. yes he's made tons of money off the art & adopted the culture to his lifestyle but i dont understand how he has rapped the art form when he has been a great benefit too it

RUN DMC and L.L. created awhite fan base for HIP HOP before eminmem...."walk this Way" by run DMC was the first crossover hit....eminem ain't did nothing but get by on his skin color and great marketing plan...

See that's the major problem with some people on the IC

Eminem makes deep, thought provoking Song's like Mockingbird yet people can't relate to a Song about parenting if not relate appreciate the Soul and emotion of the Song

Where is the drug refernces in Song's like Lose Yourself,8 Mile Road, Sing For The Moment, Cleaning Out My Closet, Say Goodbye To Hollywood etc

How can black people not be parents?

How can black people not grow up in the hood like Eminem in poverty

How can black people who are Gangsters not relate to Song's about catching cases

How can black people not have partners who cheat

See it makes my blood boil i just think you a joke triw3

You miss the point that in a industry any business products ARE CHOOSEN IN ACCORDANCE to what the business or the executive believes is marketable..it isn't about talent..If blacks didn't invent hip hop your hero wouldn't have a platform to stand on..Hip hop was disrespected by industry in the beginning..

Record companys decide who gets famous..but ya'll niggas don't get that fact..thats why you don't see a hundred mcs making jay-z money..because THEY chose jay-z to make that kind of money

Supreme hit the nail on the head right here, they said rap was goin to be a fad in he beginning, now every greedy person who wanted nothing to do with rap wants in because of the money that it generates. That is the truth, but respect it

Just an FYI - Growing up in a trailer park, and growing up in an inner city Brooklyn-esque neighborhood, or Philly, are two completely different things.

There's plenty of rappers I may be able to relate to that absolutely suck. Personally I don't factor in who I can relate to more when it comes to who I enjoy listening to. Rap is entertainment. Eminem rapping about raping and cutting girls heads off is really no different than watching a horror movie with the same shit in it.

I'm sure plenty of ppl enjoy movies and watch shit on the internet and get some enjoyyment out of worse things than what Eminem puts in rhyme. And just ccause Em decides to put it in rhyme, does it make it less acceptable?

To each his own tho, I think the whole "who I can relate to" argument is overrated.
