A DJ just spins other people's music.

Dance music producers are sound engineers, they know how to mix and create sounds from scratch which isn't nearly as simple as just sampling. Some of them are classically trained in theory and piano too.

What does he mean by it's meant to sell products though? Outside of ecstasy what else is Dance music marketing?

Quincy is cool but that nigga overrated. Other than his Michael Jackson albums he did a lot of his catalog is boring.

And I betchu none of yall talking or lurking are familiar with dude's music. Outside of "Off The Wall" & "Thriller" how much do u really know about Quincy?

He's from a different era of history period. And while I don't dismiss or disagree with what he's getting at (as far as the state of music is concerned) he just didn't grow up on Rap and it was never part of his works and he has a history dissing Rappers and Hip Hop Singers.

He's the mean old grandpa who's always talkin about his generation was the best and every generation after that went further and further into the drain. While we can't necessarily deny it we can't cosign it either.

Nosign. Quincy Jones has been putting out classics longer than your favorite producer has been alive. Here's a few

Frank Sinatra feat The Count Basie Orchestra Arranged by Quincy Jones

Genius + Soul = Jazz - Ray Charles (Arranged by Quincy Jones)

R-728198-1392932733-5795.jpeg

Walking in Space - Quincy Jones (dope Jazz album)

R-2560746-1316830437.jpeg

Smackwater Jack - Quincy Jones (there's a song on there called "Guitar Blues Odyssey: From Roots To Fruits" that's kinda funky. Perfect for sampling.

R-601954-1137400346.jpeg

Come Back Charleston Blue - Donny Hathaway (Produced by Quincy Jones) Dr Dre sampled this

R-455264-1189416922.jpeg

Roots Soundtrack - Quincy Jones (I don't know much about African music but this soundtrack is GOAT)

R-1123003-1393410527-7067.jpeg

Back on the Block - Quincy Jones. This came out when I was in high school. It features Big Daddy kane, Kool Moe Dee, Ice T and Melle Mel. Its good that he got the rappers to collaborate with the old school jazz musicians before they died. Ray Chharles, Chaka Khan and others are on this album.

You shouldn't even wasted time on this guy. Moneylover is an idiot

I said Quincy is cool but he's overrated.

How many of those songs resonated with You or the General Public? How many of his songs still get play or were still gettin burn 10 years ago?

Once u strip away the nostalgia and place things into PROPER context is when u can properly judge an artist's work. He's an icon no doubt, but what about his music doe? Becuz he's surely no James Brown.

Kanye is my favorite artists but I'm classically trained in a handful of instruments so I can say without a doubt that Quincy is right he's an entirely different kind of producer than K. West

While the music itself may not be great, being a dj in general ain't difficult but you still have to know what you're doing in terms of how to control the crowd

Truth spoken, just wonder how come he himself hasnt put out anybody recently too meet his criteria, or brought up a team that shares his beliefs... I know he got the money, maybe he just doest give a fuck anymore

Funny enough that's how I've always defended Go-Go music to people not from DC
