^^Ill give you Illmatic, Stillmatic and It was Written but no way is I am, HHID and God's Son better

Why? I cant remember all of the albums they did but I know they did The Chronic and 2001 which is very credible.

Call me old fashioned, but I believe if you give The Chronic or any other album 4 mics or 4 1/2, stick by that. They shouldnt have changed it. That would have helped them retain a little cred and maybe hip hop fans who grew up then would realize a truly classic album comes around maybe once or twice a decade if even that.

I feel you. I just think they realized how much of an impact those albums had over the years and had no choice but to change it. Also when they first did those albums they prolly were being a little bias at the same time with all the east coast/west coast beef going on. If I remember correctly I do believe they admitted to shitting on Outkast just cause they were from the south.

The Source lost all it's credibility when they gave Ray Benzionos group "Made Men" 4 1/2 mic when they didn't deserve it. Then the whole Aftermath and Murder Inc shit happened.

IMO it's albums that shouldn't have got 5 mic..Lil Kim's album was trash.

Black Album, Kingdom Come, American Gangster, Food & Liquor, The Cool all should have got 5 mics

College Dropout is a definite classic. You can make cases for albums like Late Registration, Documentary, Food & Liquor, Big Bang, Eardrum, American Gangster, The Cool, Untitled, Renaissance, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II

No you cant. Those albums were ok, but not classics.

Getwitcha

Agreed. Kanye makes great beats, not great music.

Fishscale was a 5 mic album imo. I also would have given below the heavens 5 mics as well as the eminem show.

The Source magazine originally gave the album four and a half mics out of five[37] and it was added to The Source's 100 Best Rap Albums. It was later revealed that while everybody at the magazine knew it was an instant classic, the music editor at that time had a strict policy of staying away from a perfect rating

I would say in-between nastradamus and stillmatic, it would make sense to me cause they don't sound like old nas like drunk by myself etc

All that stuff is between I AM and NASTRADAMUS not Stillmatic.

The story as I heard it was that I AM was meant to be a double disc

but the second disc got leaked (which lead to The Lost Tapes which is I AM's 2nd disc)

Nastradamus was recorded and released very quickly to make up for the leaks.

They may have added some stray cuts from Stillmatic but the majority of it is

from I AM and Nastradamus.

The Source still does Mic Ratings. In the latest Issue they give that New Hi Tek Talib Kweli Album 4.5 mics.

if anything most of the songs were left of stillmatic, you can tell just by listening to the lyrics in a couple of them, doo rags im almost positive was left off stillmatic but im not for sure, my way, no ideas original and nothing lasts forever if i had to guess were left off stillmatic but thats what im trying to figure out

Doo Rags

Black Zombies

Purple

No Idea's Original

Everybody's Crazy

^^^^Those are all from around the Stillmatic era. "Doo Rags" is like pre- Stillmatic track though. I think the booklet has a 2000 date on it in the publishing for that song.

My Way

Nothing Lasts Forever

^^^^Those two tracks were recorded after Stillmatic, right when he started working on God's Son. Both have a 2002 date in the publishing.

The rest were songs that were scrapped from I Am... Nastradamus

Alright so from what I gather, The Source used to have a rating system of 1-5 mics, 5 mics being classic.

The last albums to be rated 5 mics were

2001 - blueprint/stillmatic

2002 - scarfact the fix

2005 - lil kim the naked truth

And then they went bankrupt sometime around 2006? My question is, do they still use any mic rating for albums? Do they still rate albums at all? If so have there been any more classic/perfectly rated albums since 2005?

Lil Kim - The Naked Truth, 5 mics ? That kinda shit right there is why I haven't bought a copy of The Source since probably '03-'04. Because of Benzino and Dave Mays' involvement with the magazine, their ratings system has always been suspect. But back in the day, the mic ratings were usually dead on for the most part. Wasn't Aquemini 5 mics? If so, I can't argue with that. Seems like Benzino started the contraversey with the mic ratings. I think he gave the Made Men (his group) album like 4.5 mics or some shit. And most of the guest appearances on that album got high ratings for their albums and/or Source awards. Scarface appeared on either the Made Men album or one of Benzino's solo albums and soon after won a Source award for his Last of A Dying Breed album. I'm a huge Scarface fan, but honestly, The Last of A Dying Breed is one of his weakest albums. Even the track with Jay-Z is kinda weak. But like I said, I quit checkin out The Source a couple of years back, so I really don't know if they still review albums or use mic ratings.
