Alright so from what I gather, The Source used to have a rating system of 1-5 mics, 5 mics being classic.

The last albums to be rated 5 mics were

2001 - blueprint/stillmatic

2002 - scarfact the fix

2005 - lil kim the naked truth

And then they went bankrupt sometime around 2006? My question is, do they still use any mic rating for albums? Do they still rate albums at all? If so have there been any more classic/perfectly rated albums since 2005?

man the old days when the source was the fucking shit and was credible i have no clue what they do these days i guess they still rate albums but after all the shit came out about benzino and how they straight up hated on certain acts and were bias towards certain acts they lost all hope the lil kim album put the nail in the coffin i think she was dating the co owner at the time of the review

Lil Kim last album was good but classic no way. But looking at that list, besides Kim's album they seemed to have gotten it right.

College Dropout is a definite classic. You can make cases for albums like Late Registration, Documentary, Food & Liquor, Big Bang, Eardrum, American Gangster, The Cool, Untitled, Renaissance, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II

Yea I take Late Registration as a classic over college dropout but both great albums I would throw Be in the mix also as being a 5 mic album I love Food and Liq but I wasn't feeling the cool that much

I forgot about BE. In my opinion I dont think BE is a classic, but you can make a case for that album as well.

I feel you on the skits. They were funny at first but it got old quick. That Luda track was sick imo, the only wack song was Workout Plan.

I think Albums like that given time will eventually Be seen as 5 mic Albums.............College Dropout is defintly in classic Runinnigs if Not already a classic thouhg

They still use it online, the last classics imo are the ones you name excluding the Lil Kim bullshit because she was fucking someone at the Source at the time. There have been some 41/2 mic album since (Trap Musik, Black Album, Food and Liquor......etc) but i wouldn't say there have been pure classics since.

The Source buried itself with that bullshit issue a few years back were they went back and gave 5 mics to albums that they originally gave 4 1/2 or 4 mics. Thats when The Soure became less credible with me.

Why? I cant remember all of the albums they did but I know they did The Chronic and 2001 which is very credible.

When The Source got mixed up in rap battles and became a tool to diss MCs the credibility had a sharp decrease even today I have a hard time respecting their opinions.

XXL aint much better while The Source was hating they were sucking em off and overrating the same mofos The Source underrated. So basically I dont really peep magazine reviews anymore I read em for the interviews in stuff
