Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight (2015)

During the Q&A, Tarantino admitted that he wrote Hateful Eight while he was depressed and angry and that the pic started off as a sequel to 2012's Django Unchained, with the prospective film to be titled Django in White Hell. The filmmaker jettisoned that idea when he realized that Django would not fit into the story. "All of a sudden, it hit me the only thing wrong [with the story] was Django," he said. "There should be no moral center. I thought it should be a room of bad guys, and you can’t trust a word anybody says.”

Out of his eight movies, I put this at the bottom... Or maybe right above Jackie Brown.

Some good dialogue at times, but movie is about an hour too long... And everyone has to have a long ass soliloquy before they take an action. It gets tedious

And if the chick was equal pay whether dead or alive and Kurt Russell was so worried about people trying to free her, then why not just kill her...And the rest of the gang should have just killed Sam Jackson, Kurt Russell, etc as soon as they arrived at the cabin. Why would they kill Minnie, her man, the worker, the white lady, Charlie, the first stage coach driver, etc....all within thirty minutes of meeting them... But then when it comes to the actual bounty hunter that has his sister they go on some planning and plotting shit staging a whole fake scenario and willing to wait for hours and/or days. As soon as kurt Russell and the chick came into the cabin Michael Madsen coulda just slit his throat and freed her.

i feel u, but its a movie. jesus christ

You do realize you are at a site where ppl debate, critique, and discuss things as small as one rap verse, analyzing every line and meaning... For years, right?

You do realize that people discuss Shakespeare's plays for the past five hundred years, and characters motivations.

Books have been written discussing Francis ford coppola movies, or woody Allen movies, or spike Lee movies...etc

People like talking about art, appreciating art, and looking for larger plots and themes in art... Whether music, movies, books, plays, paintings, etc

Furthermore, that desire of discussing art is the whole basis for this website, and this very forum that you are on right now. If six sentences of me discussing Hateful eight is too much for "just a movie." Then why do you even bother coming to a discussion forum for art.

I don't mean to detail thread but I think you might be confused as to the purpose of a bulletin board.

If you disagree with my viewpoint then feel free to explain why you think the things I said about hateful eight are wrong. But to say "it's just a movie" as some sort of way to invalidate having thoughts and discussion on a discussion board no less, is asinine.

Happy New year pal

thats why they call him the hangman bc he brings them in alive. they couldnt just kill him bc they were chained together and he could of easily just killed her if they tried that. their plan made plenty of sense tatums character wanted to save his sister he wasnt gonna do something stupid

Like the great Dragonfly Jones says, "you should be studying your arts, instead of studying me. That's how you lost your first job, punk."

Saw this yesterday. Shit was way different than i thought it would be but it was dope. Sam jackson was the fucking man in this movie. That flashback scene of his with the confederate dudes son was disgusting/fucked up though. He was enjoying that too much.

Great flick though. Tarantino is 8/8 for me. Have not been disappointed by any of his films enjoyed them all.

Just finished seeing it about an hour ago.

I'm going to look at all the "nigger" stuff like this: as long as the setting allows for that thinking to be present, I'm not going to be too mad. I'll admit, the shit in "Pulp Fiction" had no merit to it, but back in the Old West, 'nigger' was synonymous with black folk.

That being said, this movie starts off slow as all fuck. I understand the need to be curteous in conversation, but goddamn.

Kill-crazy scenes are Tarantino's bread-and-butter, so the shootout that happened didn't surprise me...other than Sam L blowing Channing Tatum's top smooth OFF out of nowhere. Glad they hung that bitch in the end tho.

Overall, I'm with this movie. Sam L earned his nigga points back after the fuck shit he was on in Django.

I loved the movie. 70mm is how I'd like to present my films (if I were director and could afford it).

Might be my fav from QT.

Like others said, much funnier than I expected. Music was done damn well also.

Still...

LOL @ Tatum being in the movie so he can practice his accent for his Gambit movie

Was I the only one who hated the VO in the movie? It ruined the scene with Russell dying, and didn't add anything to movie.

Probably the former. Unless they had a backstory we never heard about, Sam L's character had no real reason to cap that old saltine. That story was a way to provoke that old guy into falling for the trap of drawing first. It was fucking brilliant, if anything.
