In Vietnam in the Southeast Asia is The Cham Museum which holds the largest collection sculpture and artwork from the kingdom of Champa of ancient Vietnam. It was descibed as Lin-yi in Chinese records from as early as 192 C.E. Lin-yi meant the “land of black men.” The Cham seem to have possessed what appears to have been a strong Melanesian element and are believed to have settled along the coastal plains of mid-southern Vietnam more than two millennia ago. Another view is that the Cham were actually Black colonists from south India. The kingdom of Champa controlled what is now south and central Vietnam from approximately 192 through 1697. At present, the museum houses 297 stone and terracotta sculptural works made between the 7th and the 15th centuries
