They could actually make a gritty and dark Voltron without a problem though because the Voltron fanbase is older, so they don't have to worry about cutting the majority of it out by going too mature.

The Japanese version of Voltron (Go Lion!) was a dark cartoon. Just when they translated it to American for children consumption, they cut out the violence, and made it friendly for all.

That wouldn't work unless you pretty much eliminate a huge chunk of history. The original Power Rangers reason for leaving was them getting older and going to college. That's part of the whole passing the torch shit they did.

.....OK, goons/cops same thing.

Remember, Bulk and Skull went into the Academy after the Rangers saved their asses too many times for getting caught up in the middle while trying to discover the true identities of the Rangers. They became outstanding, good cops, but this version turned all that around.
