I think what people are going to realize is that this isn't as much of a "race" thing as much as people think. This whole separation of race was invented by the elites to create division amongst the have-nots. Look up Bacon's Rebellion. This JUST IN: new reports are indicating that Michael Brown reportedly stood off against the officer and before charging him in a hail of gunfire which he appeared to be completely unaffected by he yelled

Officer Darren Wilson tried to reason with him but he just kept charging while simultaneously appearing to reach for what appeared to be bombs in his pockets. Officer Wilson is reportedly very shaken up by the whole experience more on this developing.

Race did however played a role in the death of michael brown...and continues to play a role in how the media has covered the aftermath; how his murder is being handled by the ferguson pd, Missouri, fbi, etc; public perception

I don't know if that was necessarily the answer you were looking for but I'll end with this...race may be a social construct but it doesn't make the idea of race any less real
