I'm a huge fan of Pete Rock both as an artist and as an important member of the hiphop culture but I think he is wrong here with his criticisms of Young Dolph.

First of all, Young Dolph is making the disposable party records/ car stereo records that have been around since Afrika Bambaataa was dropping "Planet Rock". The lyrics on "Planet Rock" were wack as fuck but it was a great party record with a catchy beat that people danced and grooved out to.

Likewise, Young Dolph has a few catchy songs like "Royalty" that a boom-bap cat like myself can still respect and nod my head to. Not everything is going to match up to the level of a Kendrick Lamar or a J. Cole in this new era just like back in the day you had Pete Rock and CL Smooth dropping gems but also respected cats like Biz Markie dropping funny nonsense joints like "Toilet Stool Rap".

Now I understand Young Dolph getting mad that he was called out by Pete Rock, but, at the same time, Pete Rock is a legend for what he has done for hiphop and his responses shouldn't have been so disrespectful. If Michael Jordan criticizes something Lebron James does, Lebron James should defend himself but never should say something like "Fuck Jordan. What does that old ass man know about basketball?" because it just makes him look ignorant about the legacy of the game.

Old head vs. young buck conversations and debates have gone on for years.

Young Dolph's music wasn't made for Pete Rock so he should just keep it moving and focus on cats he is feeling in 2016...
